I don't recall the expicit code on your version of levels, but it should be
If Product - Use that
If Not - Used Prod templat3e
If Not Prod Template - use global.
If that's not they case, you'll need to modify the code (maybe in the Head template) to make it so.

Thank you for your input, Bruce.
I'm using the Levels framework. It cascades like this: Home>Templates>Pages>Edit Page: Product Display>SEO
This framework does insert the title automatically, somehow. It looks like this:
<head>
<title>Seabreeze Comforter Set: Levels ReadyTheme</title>
Here's a link to the example product page: https://levels-theme.mivamerchantdev...orter-set.html
So really, all I need is the meta description and keywords. I can deal with the keywords by entering a few global keywords, and add some more to each product page one by one. But it would be nice to get Miva to pull the meta description already on the product page without our having to retype or paste it into each product's SEO meta description.

its somewhat of a holdover from when we didn't have SMT code and thus the ability to have a 'default' when the that info wasn't supplied by the product record. there are three built in levels of SEO title, desc, keywords
Product > Product Template > Global.
By default (at least as I recall) miva supplied frameworks cascade these in the above order.
You can aslo, using said SMT code, create your own system. There was a more elaborate thread on here recently you might want to look up,

What is the global SEO portion of the product display template good for, to have the same title, keywords and description for every product? That doesn't seem like it would be helpful for SEO purposes.Capture.JPG

Not directly. However, you can use something like:
Code:<mvt:if expr="NOT ISNULL l.settings:category:metafield:title"> <title>&mvt:category:metafield:title;</title> <mvt:else> <title>Buy &mvt:category:name; at domain name </title> </mvt:if>

SEO tokens
Can tokens be used for the title and product meta tags? With over 2000 products, I'd like to automate the task of filling in these fields as much as possible by using tokens in the SEO section of Product Display global template. Has anyone done this before? If possible, I'd like to know how to do this. I'm not familiar with token usage.
Home>Templates>Pages>Edit Page: Product Display>SEO
Possible tokens
&mvt:product:page_title;
&mvt:product:descrip;Tags: None
