Generate Variants Creates new individual products, not variants of a single product

Hi,
I wrote about using Product Variants to create a customizable gift set. This worked well for me on our Dev store. However when I went to create the same product on our Production Store, "Generate Variants" went haywire and created over 100,000 new products. Not variants of the one product. While I work to clean up the mess, maybe someone can tell me what went wrong?
I imported the same CSV file I used in the Dev Store, using "Add Product Variant via CSV" in Data Import. Then I went to the New product I had created and went to "Attributes" and hit "Generate Variants".

There should not be any differences between dev and live so its likely a configuration issue. I would need to see the product and its attributes that was created by the import. Can you create a support ticket [email protected] so we can get a copy of this file and see how it setup the product and attributes?
