    header/footer deassigned from page

Suppose someone accidentally deassigns the "hdft" Item from a page, and then they reassign it. If there was some custom code in the header or footer, will that code be preserved? Or will the page end up with an empty header and footer, and someone will need to manually restore the lost code?

    Thanks --

Not from my experience - the data is deleted. Take/create a page you don't use and experiment.

The code may be preserved in the sXX_ManagedTemplateVersions table.

I didn't check the DB, but I did look at the code for the hdft component module in the LSK. It seems clear that, when you deassign hdft from a page, the entire template version history is deleted, including all versions in template branches. When you assign (or reassign) the component, it creates new templates with empty version histories.

-- and just to protect my reputation, I will state for the record that I am not the person who deassigned the component! It happened to one of my clients, and he wasn't sure whether or not there had been custom code in the header or footer.

if that's correct, then i'd say this is a bug. Deassigning an item should NOT remove the data related to that item. (deleting it should, but assigning/de-assigning should be passive)
