    Roadmap - One-page checkout?

    It took me a minute to track down where the infographic that was sent to me came from but a storeowner included it in an inquiry regarding the ability of Miva to have a one-page checkout.

    I know this has been a discussion that has come up off and on again. I'm not sure if I had heard it mentioned being "on" again or if not. What's the current thinking on this (beyond the sales hype of this one particular company).

    I'll give you my take. One page checkout is on the roadmap and important, but the discussions are often accompanied by infographics with highly exaggerated claims. The extent to which it does create better results is blurred. I've looked at lots of marketing around this and at the end of the day it is exactly that.. marketing by companies who offer one page checkout promoting it as a game changer with questionable data.

    So - not denying that it's a good idea. 10.07 includes APIs that allow checkout to be completely reconfigured. That's not something that everyone is going to want to have a developer do, but we do have interest from some professional services customers, and of course, there are variations from store to store so this will help us work out a solid strategy for building it into the core product in a way that works across the board. The reality is, unless you lock checkout functionality down and offer very little in the way of customization, being able to deliver all the permutations and combinations of variations into a one page checkout is a heavy lift. We want to avoid delivering a core feature that limits the power and flexibility of our checkout flexibility and do it well.

      Keifer Hunniford To add to that it does make tracking checkout flow/drop-offs a little trickier too.

      This can make it harder to determine hurdles a customer may have when checking out.

        Indeed. It's a rabbit hole. We want to allow people to go down it of course, but it's an interesting one. I'm finding that what people want is not so much "One page checkout", it's "One page checkout.. except.." and "One page checkout.. unless.."

          Circling back - I think the storeowner is looking for something similar to the "Buy Now" button which you click and checkout. Buy Now buttons seem to have disappeared. I'm wondering if something like the Buy with Apple Pay or PayPal Buy Now buttons might be closer to what the store owner might be trying to achieve. Those buttons take you to their respective checkout processes. It would be something more specific to an ad campaign versus the everyday checkout process ala the "rabbit hole".
