What is the purpose of the cost field?

After creating a shipment and adding the tracking number there is an optional cost field. What is the purpose of the cost field? Is this data used any where?

The data is stored in the data base but the values are not rendered in any default Shadows templates.

TipPro, you would periodically want to export the data and compare how often and by how much your paying postage for to adjust your prices according.
