    High number of empty baskets

Any idea why new empty anonymous baskets are created every few seconds?
Review baskets had over 80 thousand empty baskets. They are created every few seconds, zero items.

If your store does not have deferred basket creation enabled, these can show up just from bots crawling the site. If deferred baskets is enabled, you may have custom code or modules in the store that are using basket custom fields to store information about 'visitors', which would include bots, and cause empty baskets to be created to store that information.

Defer Creation of Empty Baskets was not set.
I ticked the box, updated and waited a few days.
Again 29 thousand new baskets there so it must be something else.
I am not sure how to find out what is going on and if it is actually something I should just ignore?

Have your server logs reviewed and identify who is doing the deed - then block them at the firewall. That's honestly the simplest way. And not nearly as scary as it sounds. Talk to your hosting provider.

At this point 100% of active licenses eligible for upgrades are hosted with us, FWIW.

The next most likely issue after Pat turned on Defer Creation is a custom field causing them not to defer, It doesn't harm anything (most likely) but I would recommending contacting support to see if they can figure out what's causing them to not be deferred.
          Thanks,

I opened a support ticket for it.
At the moment there are again over 60 thousand baskets in less than a week.

Well. I opened a support ticket 6 days ago.
Had one immediate response, from tech support, asking if reCaptcha is installed. It is and I immediately confirmed.
6 days later, not a peep.
What is going on at MIVA?

I've asked support to reach out, we have a high ticket count right now due to update advisor messages going out, but it shouldn't have taken 6 days. Let me know if you don't hear something today.
                Thanks,

                  Thanks Rick.
I did hear back today (although nothing resolved) and I totally understand being under work-load pressure. Same here every day :-)
One thing I do want to point out is that, not always but most often, the replies to tickets can be way too technical for non-coders to understand. It often leaves me with more questions and confusion than I started with.
Activate what and add this code where? Huh?
For a non-programmer, after so many years with Miva, I can do a lot and I am not afraid of altering a template but often I have no idea what I am even looking at.
It's like bringing the car to the shop and the mechanic, instead of fixing it, handing you a highly technical manual and explaining how to take the engine apart :-)

I understand and our main focus in our newer Page Builder age is resolving that complexity. But always feel free to email me directly if you're too "stuck" in their instructions, I'll get it handled.
                    Thanks,

                      Hi Pat,

We conducted some tests and it appears that your website is initializing a basket session as soon as we access it via a browser, contrary to the expected behavior when deferred baskets are set. We have one of our technicians looking into this, Once we have more information, we'll promptly update you on our findings via the support ticket.

                      Warm Regards,

rbuelna tech support fixed the code last night. I deleted over 80K empty baskets and this morning there were only 10, all looking normal.

Thanks for the support and updates

                            Hi Pat,

Yup, we had Tim H. take a look at the store and he found that you had "Write_Basket" parameters in the global footer which would create baskets regardless. They added a check to only execute those on checkout pages.
