1st time buyer promo code with email marketing campaign

Hi Folks,
We would like to set up an email campaign and accompany it with a 1st time promo code. We haven't yet subscribed to the email mailing list company, but it probably be Constant Contact. Can someone point me in the right direction on how to connect it with the promo code aspect? I know how to set up a promo code, just how would I give it only to new shoppers?

Usually, what one does is set a 'one time use' coupon, and then include the coupon in the email sent out from your mailing list service.
