Confirm Supported Methods for Category-Constrained Search

    Objective:
I need to confirm the supported and recommended ways to implement a category-constrained search experience (e.g., “search within Cannon”), without relying on undocumented behavior or theme-specific hacks.

    Context:
I’m trying to definitively confirm how Miva handles category-constrained searches at the platform level.

    Tests performed:

    Global search:
    …/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=SRCH&Search=50mm

    Attempted category-constrained search:
    …/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=SRCH&Search=50mm&Category_Code =Cannon

    Result:
Both URLs return identical results. The Category_Code parameter appears to be ignored by the SRCH screen.

    Questions:
    1. Is this expected behavior for the standard SRCH screen?
    2. Does SRCH support category scoping via URL parameters at all?
    3. If not, is the intended / supported pattern:
      1. SRCH for global search, and
      2. CTGY (Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=…) for category-scoped discovery?
    4. Are there any documented or supported approaches (without custom search engines or third-party modules) to implement “search within a category”?

I’m specifically looking to confirm what is supported vs unsupported so I can design around platform reality rather than assumptions.

    Thank you, Bill Davis

William Davis Miva does not support category specific search results. The best way to do this would be to have a facet containing the category code so that the results can be filtered by that field.

I responded to your other post with more information that might be of assistance.
