    Hosting Companies

I think I would like to switch to a Hosting company that is more Miva Friendly. I need to run it on a windows server...any ideas?

    Re: Hosting Companies

It is fairly well known that Miva Merchant doesn't perform well on Windows servers so not many hosts that specialize in Miva Merchant offers it on Window servers.

        Re: Hosting Companies

I have emailed them, called them and left messages and nobody has ever called me back. What a horrible way to do business, I mean I have left like 5 messages and 3 emails. The last one said if you dont think you can host my site just please call me back and tell me. I would tell people to stay away from these dirtbags.

That is easy, rather than telling you who are the best, perform a search for "host" or "hosting" in this forum -two of them will stand out above the rest. You will quickly get your answer in minutes.

I recommend you try not to chose the same hosting company your competition uses even though sometimes it's unavoidable -they can always switch to the one your using, hoping to learn something useful about you.

Hosting MIVA Merchant in a Windows environment is a tough bird. They just really do not play well together. Driftwood used to be THE best at it - I'm sorry you've had problems - unfortunately, this is not the first time I've heard this. Sounds like some of our MIVA savvy hosts need to step up and fill this void.

There is no way that hosting with your competitors host will allow you, or the other, any additional insight into competitive business practices, other than the competitive advantage of having a good host.

                    Re: Hosting Companies

I think they are just telling you to find a better MIVA-savvy host :-) Is there some specific need you have for hosting this site on a Windows server? MIVA Merchant runs much better on Linux, and this is a well known fact. If you need a combination of Linux/Windows hosting - feel free to give us a call or visit our web site - I'm sure we can find a suitable solution for you.

That all depends how ethical the hosting company and their staff are -naturally this is not a concern with our hosting company. But no matter how ethical a hosting company may be, their employees could unintentionally say something about you that may not be in ones best interest. The further your competition is away from your system/data the better.

That saying “keep your friends close and your enemy closer” does not apply to business and your system/data.

I'm sure you might think I'm paranoid. You might think differently if you had been a victim of corporate espionage -it can happen to anyone. It is more common than you think. The problem is that most often than not, the owner/employer never learns about it.

Not sure what you think an employee would say that would be a competative advantage, but if, as the stated case is, you are with a "good" host, then that would cover "loose lips".
