    Re: USPS stock module dead

    Thanks for the reply, Rick.

Despite my rather minimal usage of Miva software (a mostly unmodified 4.24 cart that the pages and descriptions of items on my website links to for ordering and payments), I do like the software. And yes, the pair.com hosting folks told me years ago I was on my own for support.

When I spoke with your sales department, I was under the impression that the options open to me were to pay for a license and stay with pair.com, or to pay for a license AND move to your servers if I wanted full support. After perusing the Miva hosting options, I see I was mistaken in that assumption, and that Miva hosting comes with the license and support.

I'm an old-school Unix guy, and the reason I've stayed with pair.com over the years is because their service is on a Unix server that I can secure-shell telnet into, they have Unix based email with a decent spam filtering system, and I can use the shell command to keep multiple activity windows open and running through disconnection.

Does the Miva hosting services include Unix (or Linux) access, and the programs above? If not, do you have a list somewhere detailing what Miva partners offer those services?

Can't speak for Miva hosting, but we do offer SSH access to servers (Linux) if you need it, and you can continue what you are doing now through CLI just fine if you do not want to use web based tools for managing your web site.

Here is a list of Miva Merchant Partner:

One of the things that helps me determine a Miva Merchant savvy host is if they also hang out here and lend a helping hand.

Yes we provide those same items as well, and I would also recommend our Premier Hosts. You should be able to find a number of hosts who provide what you need.

And yes all of our hosting is on Linux.

            Re: USPS stock module dead

I appreciate the answers, comments, and suggestions. Having investigated further, it appears my choices are to buy a Miva license and stay with pair.com; uproot ten years of website and move it to a new Miva server; or stay with pair.com and migrate ten years of Miva cart development to a ShopSite cart.

My website and shopping cart system certainly could benefit in the long run from upgrades and any of the above solutions, but what I'd *really* like to do right now is get my cart accepting orders from international customers, today, by either purchasing the 4.2407 USPS module from Miva or purchasing a plug-in module from some other Miva developer.

            Help, anyone?

That is actually a lot easier than you think. We do all the work for you - all you have to give us is FTP access (or SSH) to your current web site, and we can transfer your entire web site, store, etc, as is. Unless you have some sort of special bond with pair.com, moving your site to a host that supports Miva is the fastest and simplest solution to your problem - and yes, it can be done today, which would address your need to have it done ASAP. If your DNS timeouts are reasonably short, you could be on a new server by this afternoon.

This is the beauty of hosting with a Miva Merchant savvy host, they will make the process as painless as possible.

I would second (or actually third) what Remik and Leslie said, a good host will handle it for you.

However you should be able to use the Viking Coders USPS Advanced Module, however I'm not 100% sure if it will work on the 4.x engine or not.

Our Viking USPS module can run on MVM 4.06+ for Miva Merchant 4.14+.

For only $18, you could alternatively by the Weight Table Shipping By world Zone module from emporiumplus.com

                      http://www.emporiumplus.com/1AA00029-p-1AAF.html

You will have to set up the rates by weight, so you would have to look up the current rates on the USPS site, and then copy and paste them into the module. That part is kind of a pain...

However, the benefits are that it is a static module, so if there is another hiccup with the USPS rate servers, then this module will still work ok.

the other benefit is if you ever upgrade to Merchant 5.5, the module upgrade fees for emporiumplus.com modules are VERY low - like about $10.

the Viking USPS module has a lot more configuration options, and can do a lot of different things, such as limit the number of items in one category that can be boxed together.

                        James -

I tried writing and calling sales several times this week, with no replies. This afternoon I finally spoke with someone at the sales number. He assured me that the module would work with my cart, and that if I encountered any problems I could call back.

I purchased ($120) and installed the module, carefully configured my set up following the pdf instructions, and ran a cart test. International address, no shipping method found. Ran a test with a US address, all I get is UPS options. I have activated/deactivated both the original Miva module and the Viking USPS advanced module, trying all combinations of one or both on. Triple checked all settings. Nope, no USPS options are presented to a cart, even with a PO Box address listed. Neither module is deletable, they both insist they are in use, even after I cleared all shopping carts both current and expired.

I called back the sales phone number, got voice mail, left a message. Tried again about a half hour later, voice mail again. Have emailed twice from different emails accounts, no answer. Both of these calls and emails were around 5 pm central time, 3 pm pacific.

No response via phone or email as of 8pm central time.

I know that I violated the basic systems administrator rule to never change anything on a Friday afternoon, and that's my fault, but I must say that I'm really really Not impressed with the service from Viking Coders. I think I've been pillaged and left to burn.

Deleting baskets has no impact on whether you can delete or deactivate a module - you need to delete actual orders already saved in the store (whether batched or not) before the system will allow you to deactivate the module. Until then, it is "in use" by one or more orders and cannot be simply removed.

If you want a quick fix, without deleting past orders or batches, go to the Modules section of the store, look up the module, and uncheck the "Active" checkbox. This will keep the module in the store admin, but it will not be active in the front-end store. This should help you until you hear back from Viking Coders aka eMediaSales.

Did you pack your store after you installed your modules?

Miva 4 was pretty particular about having to pack your modules after installing them.

                              I hope this helps.
