Hostway victim seeking GOOD HOSTING CO!

Searching some threads looks like several of you know Hostway's issue with Miva hosting. Please help me!

I've been trying for nearly a week to get Hostway to fix whatever problem they caused on my site. Absolutely no Miva 4.24 generated mail is going out...Hostway upgraded my mail server to their new/advanced mail and now every mail fails due to brackets on the email address. I don't mean brackets how they should be used; I mean it thinks they are PART of the email address and the mail server says the address does not exist. <sigh> I use MmPass to deliver d/l products, so this is a HUGE problem. BTW changing the brackets option in domain settings has no effect either. At first they refused to help me b/c I have addt'l modules installed. Now they seem to have no clue. The email works outside of Miva so I'm sure it's something with their configuration between Miva & the mail server. I'm no programmer or rocket scientist after all but GOOD GRIEF ALREADY!

ETA: It worked fine for months before they upgraded the email!

SO...they're about of time! My account renews on Wed for the next quarter. I'm looking for GOOD HOSTING CO REFFERALS that are affordable and have competent tech support. Please help!

have you tried using "localhost" (without the quotes) for the mail server setting.

No, but I will right now. They were using the smtp add & they tried the ip as well.

That still fails but changes the error msg to "Can not receive mail at this time"
Thoughts?

localhost and/or mail.domain.com should both work fine with all the good hosts that frequent these forums.

We switched a few months ago from Hostway because the refused to make our servers PCI Compliant. We are now hosted with eMediaSales.com. James who runs the company used to work for Miva Merchant back in the day. I think he was a VP, if I am not mistaken.

Gary, changing to mail.domain.com HELPED some! I can now send emails on my own domain, but the customer email is still failing with the same issue:
&lt;[email protected]&gt;: Recipient address rejected: does not exist

mail.domain.com will typically only allow your store to send emails to addresses on your domain rather than address of yours plus addresses of your customers. If localhost is not working, the only option would be to have hostway provide a server name which allows for relaying of email to external recipients, or to fix localhost.

I would jump ship to a real miva host:

See who will move you for free and get you back up and running fast, and look at who participates in this forum- those are the guys who will be there to support you when you have a problem.

I have experience with Hostasaurus and with Dotcomhost. Both are excellent! However, as stated above, look at who responds to questions and who helped you out. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the four hosts above.
