Re: USPS Online Rate Calculation, New API & Rates

Yes, the unbilled extra will hurt. It's amazing to us that any company would let their customers go without some kind of statement for a serious situation like this. If they would at least be courteous enough to acknowledge the problem and tell us to go away and find someone else (Viking, of course) to fix our problem, but to ignore it is unacceptable. I wonder if they are fixing it for Miva 5 customers?? If so, one would think it would be simple to port it to Miva 4 also. Anyone know if 5 is getting fixed? Maybe I'm out of the Miva loop and not getting proper communication - but for us, anyway, we are hearing nothing and our dealer/host seems to know nothing. This is weird.

I am a Miva 5 users and no, Miva 5 doesn't have it either - in fact, for us Miva 5 users, there are NO solutions - not even 3rd party providers.

Just wait for the 14th to roll around. The folks who get caught by this unawares will suddenly find their voices.

        Hi,

I got this back from Miva when I asked if they were going to update the shipping Module. Though for Miva 4 it looks like Viking coding will be getting my business.

        Bear :-(

"Thank you for contacting MIVA Technical Support.

As per your inquiry, I would like to inform that there is no new version of the Miva Shipping Calculator to be introduced to handle the different classes of mail and the new Dimenisional Rates that will be in effect from May 14th, for the USPS as the module in MIVA Merchant is directly connected to the live server of USPS.

Also, you will be updated about by USPS directly."

Other than "you are S-O-O-L" , that the heck is this person saying? They are going to wait for the USPS to provide a solution???????

At least Miva 4 users have a 3rd party option. Those of us foolish enough to select Miva 5 are left with no options.

In the mean time, be sure to send Miva you suggestions for "dream features." Perhaps they can recommend a shopping cart provider who has customer service as a priority.

            Hi,

I do beleive that Viking Coders is working on a solution to Miva 5, just that it won't be done by the 14th

Re: USPS Online Rate Calculation, New API & Rates

It looks like we will be going witht he Viking Coders USPS Advanced mod., we have others from them and love them, work very well, very well supported.

My question is this, for those of us currently using the USPS mod. from Miva which accesses the postal services API, do we still need to sign up for a User Id or are we all set with the userid we already have ? Not sure if this is clear ?

              Thanks

                Alan,

You do not need a new user ID. Your existing USPS webtools ID will work fine.

Re: USPS Online Rate Calculation, New API & Rates

Miva's reply do not make any sense, as least to this seemingly ignorant user. Are they suggesting that the USPS API will automatically adjust the kinds of foreign shipments? With global being obsoleted, will the API fix this and give us the ability to chose the new foreign kinds in our Miva shipping module. And, will the user automatically see the new shipping kinds in their shopping cart? I'll be happily surprised if this is the case. I guess we wait till tomorrow morning to find out. I'm not at all opposed to investing in the Viking module, cause we have other Viking products and love them, but if we don't have do, then we'd rather invest the money in some other Viking opportunity, cause till now the Miva shipping module has served it's purpose. Guess tomorrow will tell the "rest of the story". --- It's still unacceptable to me that Miva would be so unsupportive of this issue. If we don't have a problem, then fine, educate us.

I'm am absolutely incredulous at the amazing lack of support offered by Miva (don't even get me started on the money that I simply threw away on Miva Synchro.)

This is the straw that broke the camel's back - I'll definitely be looking at alternate storefront solutions.

Well Miva's module sure is not working for the new rate calculation. It assumes everything is a package. I ship a lot of first class envelopes. Everything is normal. Little to no support.

Re: USPS Online Rate Calculation, New API & Rates

Our worst fears have come true. We've already lost 2 foreign shipment sales this morning. Whenever a customer tries to make a purchase to be shipped to a foreign country - the checkout screen says 'CAN NOT CALCUALTE SHIPPING' - And that's the end of that. We've changed nothing in our setup. So, I double checked and entered a test shipment to a customer address that we shipped to last week - exactly identcal - yes, we get that error message 'CAN NOT CALCULATE SHIPPING' - MIVA is bad for doing this to us.

We're a high-volume site and have gotten ZERO orders today due to:

Is there a solution avaiable for uncompiled merchant? or is this the straw that breaks my bank account?

So we updated to USPS Advanced by Viking Coders, and have shown it to work with both Intl and Domestic testing we've done.

Unfortunately, at this time requests to usps.com are taking upwards of 4 minutes to return, frequently causing timeouts. That's not a module problem, though.

Just thought I'd mention this for the uncompiled users of the USPS Viking Domestic Shipping Module, it is also failing. I've removed all shipping options from it and gone back to flat rates on Domestic. Luckily, I've only been using it for express rates.
