The good shipping modules allow you to offer insurance. How do you shipping your items and what module are you currently using? You can also use a module like Additional Checkout Data to add a checkbox for customers to use to add insurance. You can associate a fee with this.

I don't believe that provides shipping prices though. What modules are you using to get your shipping prices, and with what service do you ship your items?

        UPS, USPS, FedEx, Etc.

I does provide the shipping prices and we use all the services you listed.
          All the standard stuff.

Just discovered a new requirement. Something my boss calls "Dimension Weight", where the size of the package is taken into consideration.

Exp: 8lb box should be considered "heavier" if its a long-rectangular-oversized box.

          Thanks

Well if dimensional weight is something you want then you want to go to Viking Coders. They have the shipping modules you need. Depending on the shipping methods you want to use you should get FedEx Advanced, UPS Online ToolsŪ Custom Integration, USPS Advanced.
They provide options for adding insurance. You can also specify things such as box size, quantity/weight to fill a box, discounts/surcharges at the store or down to an individual product level. These shipping modules use real-time rates taken directly from the carrier.

I am not sure about the others, but I know the UPS one will take advantage of any discount rates you get through your UPS Account.
