Google & Yahoo "Parameter Settings" Help!!

I'm trying to get Google and Yahoo to ignore certain parts of my URL for better indexing. So before I set my Parameter Setting I thought I would ask for help!! What would you recommend for the Category Page and the Product Page? What parts of the URL must I tell Google and Yahoo to skip?

    Examples:
    http://www.baronlfi.com/mm5/merchant...se-Plate-Frame

What you may want to do is to enable the short links feature in your Miva. This may take care of everything you want to do without having to put out special restrictions to Yahoo or Google.

You will probably want to put in 301 redirects for your old links before enabling so you don't lose any current rankings.

I have already done that. However when I export my sitemap none of my URL's show up as short links! So how do the short links work if they are not on my sitemap that i submit.

What are you using to export your sitemap?

          Mark,
I'm using the Template Data Feed from Emporium Plus!!! It has the option to export an XML sitemap.

Re: Google & Yahoo "Parameter Settings" Help!!

The problem is not Google & Yahoo parameter settings (there may be issues there too but that is not the problem you are describing).

You need to adjust your setup inside the Template Data Feed Module so that it is outputting in your short URL format and not the default which includes all the parameters. This is done under Utilities > Template Data Feed

                  Mark,
I'm in the Template data feed right now. Where would you adjust that? I don't see any area to change something like that.

Re: Google & Yahoo "Parameter Settings" Help!!

                    Hey there;

I'm in the Template data feed right now. Where would you adjust that? I don't see any area to change something like that.
Firstly, which shortlinks format are you using?

                    Something like:

                    yourdomain.com/product_code.html
                    yourdomain.com/category_code.html

Or are you using a different format?

Setting up the Template Data Feed can be a little complex, so it is best to check the documentation.

In your store name, click on the WORD Utilities (NOT the Plus sign next to it).

Then click the Template Data Feed link in the right admin panel.

You'll see the Help Icon right next to the Copyright notice on the far right (might have to scroll over a bit).

                    Hope this helps.

Re: Google & Yahoo "Parameter Settings" Help!!

If anyone can explain how to do this in detail, I'd appreciate it. I've looked through the Help documentation and can't find anything that addresses this. (Unless it's the (entity encoded) token??) Obviously, it's a question of going into the google feed and editing the Product info but after working on it over the weekend and making changes that always resulted in invalid url's I'm hoping someone here has the answer. Thanks!

                        Sirius,

I would need your website URL to provide any specific feedback.

                        Thanks,

I know that Bill would be more than happy to help point you in the right direction, since he is the developer of the Template Data Feed module.

                          Go to:

                          http://www.emporiumplus.com/merchant2/merchant.mvc

Then scroll down near the bottom of the left hand category tree and you will see a contact us button.

                          Hope this helps.

Thanks Mark but it still needs too much work for me to post it. :(
I'll contact Bill like the other Mark suggested.

I was just thinking that since there were 2 of us here interested in the answer, it would be a benefit to have the answer posted on the forum.

                            Thanks!

it would be. But because there are SO many different short link variations possible, it might be a little cumbersome.

If you tell me what format your short links are supposed to be in, when I get a moment, I can try and suggest what order to put the tokens in, but Sales Tax is due today, so I am busy, busy, busy right now...
