Re: Combine OPAY and OSEL into one page
Hi Ted,
This isn't true for all stores. The article on one page checkout uses all of the standard miva screens and there are a fair number of stores who don't have complex checkout requirements. It will work on those without any interference at all.
I think the key here is to have a fair understanding of your conversion rate before jumping into it. ie, setup Google Analytics and Goal Funnels, get some good stats. This way if you do the switch you can measure for yourself the effectiveness or lack thereof. And be ready to roll back to standard checkout if your conversions decrease measurably.
Rick told a great story at the 2010 Miva Conference about a site (I think it was the Head Blade site) where they implemented 1-page checkout and sales dropped like a rock. They rolled back and sales went right back up. Another site had the opposite effect. So there's no magic bullet here, just tactics that can be measured and used when appropriate.
Thanks as always - I don't think we took it as a slam, I always encourage our team to engage in these sort of discussions. We're NOT the "ecommerce authority", the store owner is. We learn from these discussions as much as merchants do.
Best,
James
