Is there a module that will allow for the taxing of items sent to Canada. An existing store is opening a branch in Canada and they'll need to charge sales tax for those orders.

Re: Canadian tax
Items shipped to Canada from outside Canada are charged tax by Canada Customs when the package is processed thru customs (fedex, UPS, USPS etc all have custom agents).
If you are opening a Canadian store/site you can use the Canadian tax settings builtin to Miva Merchant.

Re: Canadian tax
You only charge taxes in the Country and State if you ship within the same Country and State. For example, if your store is based in California, USA, any orders to be shipped within California should be taxed. But, orders sent to Canada or the other states in USA are "tax exempt". If you are shipping from within Canada to Canadian addresses you can use Canadian sales tax module, while orders shipped from Canada to US are "tax exempt". The receiver of the goods may have to pay duty and/or taxes, as assessed by Customs (on either Canadian or US side, depending which way you ship) but that is not something you as the store owner need to be concerned about as it's not your responsibility - it's the package recipient who has to pay duty and/or taxes on international shipments.

Re: Canadian tax
Sounds like you want to use a single store for your USA and Canadian orders and the Canadian orders are being processed from within Canada.

Re: Canadian tax
Currently there is a store in Texas. Sales tax for items shipped to TX are charged. They are opening a warehouse & store in Canada and will be shipping orders to Canada from their Canadian warehouse. But when I try to add the Canadian VAT tax module, Miva tries to remove the state-based sales tax. Is there another way to approach this?S.Conner

Re: Canadian tax
If you are trying to do this in a single store, that may be a bit of an issue. You could set up a second store (using the 'additional store' license type) and have one US store and one Canadian. Each store could then have different tax methods, different shipping methods, and even different payment methods - so that your US customers get charged in U$ and Canadian customers in C$. There are many benefits of splitting up international stores like this, if you have physical presence in both countries and ship from within those countries, rather than across-the-border.Last edited by d_host; 07-29-10, 07:32 AM.
