What are Breadcrumbs please?

Hi,

I would like to use the breadcrumb idea in my store. So for example, if a user goes from the Home page to the "Dogs" page to the "Doc Food" page (all category names). I would like to display, at the top,

Home -> Dogs -> Dog Toys

I have both the Sebenza Category Template Module and the Emporium Tool Kit and both support breadcrumbs.

My question is, prior to coding how do I set this up and more to the point how does the display know how to create the breadcrumb display?

I am thinking that it is based on sub-cats so to show the above breadcrumb display, do I have to make "Home" a parent category of "Dogs" and "Dogs" a parent category of "Dog Toys"? Is this correct?

You don't need to make Home a parent category, but yes, you will need to set up your other categories in a heirarchy of parent and sub-categories for breadcrumbs to work.

Here is an example of bread crumb that we use:

once you organize your catagories correctly, as well as your products, you will be able to insert the codes and it should work nicely.
FYI, we use emporium tool kit...

You have to use a link style that your store is using, e.g.
bookstore.carf.org/miva/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=&mvta:bread crumb:code;&Store_Code=CC

For some reason it is putting a space in the word breadcrumb. There should be no space.

I thought we were. The store code lists the store code before the category code.

The above that I gave you should be correct. The order of the variables does not matter.

If the order does not matter, than I do not see a problem with my links.
I must be misunderstanding what exactly in my code needs changed.
I tried your eg. and that did not work either (without the space in breadcrumb).

I can see the breadcrumbs, but the links are not working, except the home one.

One of the ones I found was

That is not anything like the example I gave you in #5 post. Please use the example. There should be no product name if you used my example in post 5. You also have a ; after the CC which is not correct.

I do not have product name in my code.I just copied the code from your website and insterted our website.
Again, I am not exactly sure where I am supposed to use your code from #5.
