Re: google shopping data feed updates

I'm mulling that over as I have 39 in my feed with no images and don't have time to mess with them. There is also an issue with variants that needs to be thought about. Currently Google only accepts variants color, size, material, pattern. But there are stores that have based variants on other attributes. Google rejects it if it isn't one of those 4. But other portals will take it. You can't use the master product when it has variants because the pricing/weight/inventory is likely based on the variant. So what to do?

Question - will the updated version of the Template Data Feed module work with PR7?

Re: google shopping data feed updates

Not for variant products because the image stuff was introduced in PR8. So the TDF will still work but you cannot use any of the tokens for the variant features. Depending on your product type, you may still be able to submit to Google without variant features. Course it would have no affect on other shopping portals. The tokens requiring PR8 are listed at the end of the tokens list at http://www.emporiumplus.com/v5/exprodf.htm

Re: google shopping data feed updates

After Sept 22 you MUST have a column called google_product_category. If your products map to the Google category (or its subcats) called Apparel & Accessories, you will need to be using variants with color and size attributes, unless you get a waiver. Hence, you will need to use MM PR8 if your products are in those categories. Some stores are just not going to submit products if they are in those categories, so that their feed for the rest of the store does not get banned.

Re: google shopping data feed updates

            Hello Everyone,
I have been following this post and I have few questions and looking for suggestions.
We are a High end niche custom designed jewelry company. the site is www.luzstyle.com, obviously we have products in different metals and rings are different sizes in each metal. everything is custom made for you. I also have the latest datafeed from Bill.
so first question: Can I upload my products using data feed to Google and will it get accepted? (since they will be custom made etc..)
second question: is it even worth the effort to upload the products to Google or should i just do amazon or Shopzilla? or should i just stay away from the whole thing and not to worry about product data feed since we are such a niche and high price ticket items? I have seen Neiman Marcus do it....
Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions.

Send in a exclusion request... We do custom Jewelry also as seen at http://www.townsqjewelry.com and it was accepted for exclusion based on custom made items. I suppose mileage may vary, yet this was what our result was.

Re: google shopping data feed updates

Google describes variants as: "Variants are versions of the same product which only vary based on colors, materials, patterns, or sizes. Examples include dresses of different sizes and colors, digital cameras of different colors, and food items of different size capacities."

Has anybody reading this created inventory attribute variants for products that vary based on attributes other than the 4 Google lists?

Re: google shopping data feed updates

Like most folks, I've been following this thread and tweaking my data feed accordingly. One thing that really has me concerned is the "google_product_category" issue. Does anyone know for sure if this is going to be an absolute requirement? How are you all handling this exactly?

                        Thanks,
                        Kenny

Re: google shopping data feed updates

It will be for some product types. You'll need to look at the Google docs on which product types. For those that don't require it and you don't want to supply it, that cell would be blank in the feed. So you may have some products that have it and others that don't. The biggest impact is on those whose products are apparel as they will have the variant issues to contend with too.

Anyone concerned about the four accepted predefined values of Availability:
                            • 'in stock'
                            • 'available for order'
                            • 'out of stock'
                            • 'preorder'

Bill - Does your TDF module have some sort of mapping function so that stores don't have to cave in to what Google defines as acceptable terms for Availability?

See the token in the TDF usage doc. There is a new availability token to use with Google. However, the limitation in miva is there is no setting for preorder. So that one is probably not going to be used. A product is either in or out of stock. If out of stock, the 3rd choice above would be your message. If in stock, depending on your store, one of the first two messages would be used.

We have inventory turned off and utilize our Availability Field to provide more useful information than what Google is proposing. Out of Stock items have a date entered in that field to inform customers when it will be back in stock. If no info is available on when it might be available, we enter “Contact Us”. Some items have a standard lead time (e.g. 2 weeks). If we know inventory is below a certain level, we enter “Low Stock”. I’m sure many other vendors do something similar. I was hoping the TDM would have some sort of customizable mapping feature that would avoid the need for creating another custom product field just for Google Availability.
