Variant Price is set by the Master Product and its Attributes

I must not have had enough coffee this past month - I am still have difficulties wrapping my head around why the Price won't update to the total price after an attribute has been selected that has a value assigned to it.

Here's what I have done for a product that has 3 attributes:

Color & Size - Inventory Variants generated (with no additional cost added).
One optional add on item - not variant generated.

Pricing may be controlled at the variant level. You may specify a default pricing option now. If you wish to assign a specific price to one or more variants, you may do so after generation.
Variant Price is set by the Master Product and its Attributes
Variant Price is set by the Inventory Product

I selected "Variant Price is set by the Master Product and its Attributes" when creating the Color & Size Inventory Variants. My thinking was that the total price would be display in the price-value element - it does not. I'm really, really trying to avoid having to generate Inventory Variant for all 3 attributes and then having to assign a price to EVERY Inventory Variant just to get this to work. I just feel like I'm missing something extremely simple.

Correct, the price (at this point in time) never dynamically updates on the PROD page when you choose "Master Product and its Attributes"

So just to make sure I've got this (and millions of others do too) - I would have to choose the second option which would also require me to generate variants for all 3 attributes instead of just the two? Or would it just be the first two attributes and the price update would then work?

You've lost me on this one.

If you use Auto-Generate, then it would generate for all the Attributes. And if you had chosen the second option, then it would dynamically update the price.

However, those 2 aren't 100% related. You could choose to manually set up the Variants (so do the 2 you want and not the third) and on those 2, have the price controlled by the Variant (in which it would auto-update) and then it wouldn't update on the third.

Bottom line though is without a variant created, and the price set to be controlled by the variant, then it's not possible (out of the box at this time) to have the price automatically update on PROD.

You've lost me on this one.

Now you know how I feel ;) Okay, I didn't create all the attributes at the same time. I started off with just the color & size - they were the only ones I wanted all the variants for. After I created the variants I added the 3rd attribute of the optional item that had a value.

Okay, so what do I need to do to have the price update when someone adds an attribute that has a price? Also while I'm asking, what do I need to do to have the option display "SOLD OUT" if that particular Inventory Variant quantity is 0?

I think Bruce has a module for this and we're going to add it in a future update.

You lost me again :) Normally if you have Hide Inventory turned on, it just disappears. You'd like to to stay displayed but show SOLD OUT?

Yes - I think I'm thinking of how the Viking Coders Inventory Manager has the ability to show "SOLD OUT" in the drop down (without the ability to select).

I don't think that's possible using our Built In system.

Okay, I can live with that (for now). Just need to know how to get the 3rd attribute to update the price. Can I go back in and regenerate the Inventory Variants to include the 3rd attribute (as long as it's set to track the Inventory Variants)? Which setting do I select? Am I going to have to go in to each variant and set a price for it?

Yes go back and Regenerate the Variants and select price controlled by variant.

Yes you have to go into each variant and set a price for it.

Okay, then I should be able to do a product export and update it all via an import? One product is going to have over 300 variants.

Once I get the hang of this, I think I'm going to write a book - Inventory Variants for Dummies ;)
