Need multiple Image Machine Main Image sizes

I need to be able to have the ability to have a larger Image Machine Main Image. But the Product Display Layout Image Dimensions only allows for one set of dimension for the Main Image. Could I just change the setting, upload the images I need at the larger size, let the image machine generate them and then change the settings back?

Yes, I am pretty sure that would work and would be the easiest way to do it.

I tried it - as soon as I switch back the settings, the Main Image re-resizes to the defined setting - so this is not a viable option for the Main Image.

Update 4 will give you the ability to assign products to custom pages, so you will be able to create a new product display page and assign any products you need to use it instead.

In the meantime, you could create a new item called "large_imagemachine" and select the ImageMachine for it's module and assign it to your PROD page. Edit PROD and enable the newly created Image Machine (large_imagemachine) and set it's dimensions to the larger ones you need. Then in your Product Display Layout template, conditionally draw the mvt:item reference to either the default Image Machine or the new one, like this...

<mvt:if expr="g.Product_Code EQ 'product_2'">
    <mvt:item name="larger_imagemachine" param="body:product:id" />
<mvt:else>
    <mvt:item name="product_display_imagemachine" param="body:product:id" />
</mvt:if>

That would work in a bind, although if you have a large number of these special products it may not be an adequate solution.

Hi Preston,

I'm close. I was able to create the second instance of the Image Machine and I want to use it in a product page template (Sebenza template). For the default Image Machine layout, I'm using this:

 <img src="&mvt:product:image;" id="main_image" alt="&mvt:product:name;" />

- which of course displays the original Additional Image size, not the new one.

Suggestions?

The only code you would need to change to use the new Image Machine item you created would be to call the new item code instead of product_display_imagemachine. As long as you configured the new Image Machine's settings to point at the same IDs as the original Image Machine, you shouldn't need to change anything else.

Hmmm, then I must be doing something wrong. Using the Sebenza Product Page template, I created a new template. I changed

<mvt:item name="prod_imagemachine" param="head" />

to

<mvt:item name="larger_imagemachine" param="head" />

and left the rest of the code the same. But it's still pulling in the smaller sized image.

Did you set the larger dimensions in your Image Dimensions (larger_imagemachine) tab?

Yes, in the new tab Image Dimensions (larger_imagemachine) - I set the new image sizes to the larger dimension.

See if you can get this working on the normal PROD screen, without the Product Template Manager. If you can get it working there, then there's something interfering with the page settings when using the Product Template Manager. Also, keep in mind that the Image Machine will never "blow up" an image larger than it's original dimensions, so make sure you're not setting the dimensions larger than the original ones.

Just to check - everything else I have is okay? My image sizes are all the popup size so trying to blow them up isn't a worry. I even went back in and deleted the images that the Image Machine generated to see if maybe I was caching an image some where.

So I'll try moving the

<mvt:item name="larger_imagemachine" param="head" />

to the PROD page and go from there.

You need to be calling the new item with the body param within the Product Display Layout template...

<mvt:item name="larger_imagemachine" param="body:product:id" />

...not just the head param.

Is that supposed to replace something that is already there? I don't see anything similar to it for the default Image Machine. Is that the code for the new sized image?
