Can an attribute discount the base price by percentage

I have searched and found people asking this question, but I don't see an answer. I have two options for each product, large or small. If small is selected, the price needs to be reduced by 30%. It seems like such a simple concept, and often needed, but I can't seem to do it. Any ideas?

Oh my gosh, I was just needing to ask a very similar question. I need to be able to create an attribute that will take the product price and fractionally (percentage) increase it. The attribute would need to be 1/4 (.25), 1/2 (.50) and 3/4 (.75) of the "base" price. In this case the product is sold by the yard. The base price is 1 yard (and is also the minimum amount that can be ordered). The store already has the EmporiumPlus Size Pricing module to set the minimum "yardage".

I'm also thinking it needs to be created as an Attribute Template that can be applied to products as needed.

Does anyone have something like this?

    Thanks!

      Great questions.

      Couple of thoughts.

      1) If I recall, attributes can be a negative number. Just say "30% Off" in the Prompt and have the fixed negative dollar amount in the attribute field. They would need to be manually updated whenever you make price changes.

      2) I do know that attribute amounts can be modified or affected by Price Groups. Could that functionality be used? The main problem I see is that it could affect the base price too. Perhaps that can be blocked.

In either scenario I'd considering getting a module (I think from Emporium Plus) that combines the base and attribute amounts for a seamless look in the basket. You can see how I use it here. Click on the Box question which adds the difference in cost to a single pouch. Then look at the Mini- or Full Basket to see the combined amount. I had to do this since Miva doesn't have a standard Unit of Measure function.

      Hope this helps.

        Hi Keith,

In my situation - item 1 would have do be done for every product. But then the way the quantity multiples that attribute, using attributes has been a problem. So 3 and 1/2 yards - 3 is the quantity and 1/2 is the attribute becomes a quantity of 4 and 1/2.

I have the same problem with item 1. There are lots of products, all with their own price. The smaller version costs 30% less. I could use hard coded prices if I could somehow upload them in a flat file for all of the products. Is that possible? As far as price groups go ... it might work. I don't know much about them. The question would be this: Could you add a group that discounted items by 30% and then assign products to the group and then let the customer choose the one they wanted?

Sorry Leslie, I was thinking more about roblasch's issue. Your challenge is way beyond my paygrade. :-(

Roblasch, here's an Attribute/Option Import/Export tool from Emporium Plus that might do the trick: http://www.mivacentral.com/page/m/PR.../WCW-ATTRIMPT5

You can assign items (and customers) to multiple price groups. As soon as customers are placed in a group they immediately see all of the applicable adjusted prices. Whether you can do it on the fly while they are selecting an item I don't know. Tool Kit can do some amazing things but it might get confusing. Perhaps I shouldn't have raised the issue...

Re: Can an attribute discount the base price by percentage

              Hi folks --

I have a module that makes attribute prices operate as percentages instead of dollar amounts. It's true, you can do this without a module, IF each product only has one attribute. But if any product has two or more attributes that need to work this way, then you need a module to do the math.

This is a "semi-custom" module that's in use by several stores; you can try it at http://printitfastonline.com/product/GLOSSY_FLYERS.html. This is a good page to demo, because it has an instant-update price display that shows you the price for each combination of options. Without doing all the math in your head, you can verify with a few clicks that the price of each option depends on what other options are selected, i.e. multiplying instead of adding.

I'm not quite sure where this thread is heading :^. But if any of you end up being interested in this module, you can drop me a line by email to discuss the specifics of your store's setup and requirements. Thanks --

I was hoping to do this as well, but from this thread, it doesn't look to promising.

We're releasing our products in a new format (formats are handled by attributes), and want to offer the new one at a discount. I would do it manually, but we have products with different prices all using the same attribute template (they all have to use the same template for them to work with our softgoods module).
