Import from Flat File containing Quotes

We used Miva 4 for years to import products from text flat files w/o problems. The prod
descriptions contain HTML, and thus quotes. We are now in the process of upgrading
to Miva 5.5 and I have run into a problem trying to import/update prods from the same
text flat files that worked in Miva 4. Here is the error:

Import of C:\fakepath\proddescupdate.txt failed: MER-IMP-UTL-00005: Parse error: Input error, got
    quote inside non-quoted field

I've tried differently delimiters. Nothing works. Does anyone know of a work around? HTML requires
quotes in many instances so I can't believe this does not work.

What version of 5.5 are you running? And more important which Import System are you using?

Miva Merchant 5.5, Production Release 8, Update 4, erchant Engine v5.13 Engine v5.13. I've been using the default Product Import module. Looks like productimport.mvc version 5.8002

Re: Import from Flat File containing Quotes

Assuming you upgraded to PR8 from PR7, there's 2 Product Import modules. Do you expand the + to the left of Import (under utilities) or do you just click on the word Import?

The reason I'm asking is previously our Import modules didn't follow the proper spec for CSV files and didn't handle quoted items well, specifically within HTML.

In the PR8 Import it handles them just fine.

So I'm wondering if you're using the old import and you should switch to the new one? Or if you had altered your routine somehow since you used to do this in 4.x and when we finally fixed our Imports in PR8 to follow the proper CSV spec, whatever you were doing in your file creation got broken.
        Thanks,

Did you ever find a solution to this problem? I am beginning the process to upgrade to Miva Merchant 5.5 and have a development store running

          Miva Merchant 5.5
          Production Release 8 Update 5
          Miva Merchant Engine v5.13
          Database API: mysql

I am getting the same problem with import items with quotes in the file.

            Brandon,

Which Import modules are you using? See my post 2 up. If you're using the new one, you shouldn't have any issues with quotes.
            Thanks,

I don't have an + sign next to my import. I can only click on the word import.

Re: Import from Flat File containing Quotes

Then you're definitely using the right import modules.

Try opening the file in Excel, if it looks proper in Excel, save it as a CSV from Excel. Does that solve your issue?

Our old modules didn't follow the proper public standard, so if you used to do it in a 4.x store in a way which worked, you might inadvertently be creating the problem.
                Thanks,

                  Thanks Rick,

I was trying to import a txt file directly from my old store. As soon as I put it in excel and exported to tab delimited txt file everything worked.

One problem down, a million more to solve. <grin>

                  Thanks so much your help,
