    Soft Goods Import Help Needed

    I'm running Miva Merchant 5.5, PR 8, Update 4. Soft Goods version 5.019. I cannot determine
    how to import Soft Goods fields, which is supposedly done using the standard Miva Import utility.
    Soft Goods fields are not listed in the list of importable fields (too logical, I guess), nor is there a place to specify
    custom fields. I can export the SG fields using Miva's Export utility just fine.
    eMediaSales support has only
    provided vague answers, but now have quit returning emails all together. With over 1000 downloadable products to
    specify paths for, I NEED this feature to work.

    Hi D,

    The module implements the standard "Custom Fields" Interface, and import/export should work normally just like any other custom fields module. Are you able to import custom fields in general? This is the best place to start, and Miva's support can certainly help with understanding how to import custom fields.

    I think the PRE-pr8 import utilities should still be available, look in: Utilities -- Import data -- Import products from flat file. I haven't tried the PR8 'new import' utilities with custom fields modules personally, but I expect they would work just as good.

      Under Utilities, I can enable Custom Fields, create a custom product field and import it. The newly created custom field(s)
      show up in the list of fields available to import under the Import utility. I tried creating custom product fields for the Soft Goods field names I was able to export. The data imported, but the Soft Goods data (file path, file desc.) would not show up under the "eMediaSales Softgoods and Digital Downloads " tab for any specific product.

      Under Utilities, I have Import Data > Product Template Manager Import, that's it. The Product Template Manager is from an
      add-on module we purchased. Nothing regarding importing from a flat file. That's all part of the Import utility now, I believe.

        I noticed a different problem. When you tell the export file you do want the field header on the file, after the product image field header, it stops using the | as the separater and reverts back to using tabs. For this particular client, I can't use tabs, at least not on the initial import because their descriptions include real messy HTML that sometimes breaks the import. This is either an issue with the way your module ties into the new export features, or a glitch in Miva. Not sure which.

          Re: Soft Goods Import Help Needed

          Hi Ted,

          Actually I think I've seen that. Can't remember if it was a bug in the module or a specific version of Miva, but the way the fields are implement in the latest version is fully compatible with the PRE-PR8 (legacy) product import/export modules. I actually think that was a bug in Miva's legacy import/export and you just need to alter the header row before import.

          Looking at the code again I DO see where an issue could arise on the new Import/Export feature, I'll have to look closely at that.

          Going back a post regarding the legacy import/export modules from Miva - it appears that fresh Miva installations post PR8 might not add the product import/export modules to the site, but I think they are still distributed. Try going to:
          :: Global Settings -> Modules
          - look for module code prodexp / module name Export Products to Flat File
          - look for module code prodexp / module name Export Products to Flat File

          If they're not there, click "add", and use these file names to add the legacy import/export to your domain:
          :: modules/import/prodimpt.mvc
          :: modules/export/prodexp.mvc

          Then you can enable the switch in the module to expose the Custom Fields interface.

          Best,

            Re: Soft Goods Import Help Needed

            The following error exists when trying to load modules/import/prodimpt.mvc:

            "Runtime error in mm5/5.00/admin.mvc @ [0000006b:000001ee]: admin/module.mv: Line 47: MvDO: Unable to find function 'Module_Description' "

            Once again, another problem. Thanks to a nearly two-week absence of any support, I had no choice but to load nearly 1200
            download links and desc. by hand. Wish I could charge someone for the time involved. We will still need the import function to work for future additions and updates, however, if this problem does not get resolved we will have no choice but to abandon the Miva platform.
