    Miva Inventory control question

We currently using Miva Built-in Inventory control for attributes. I have the global inventory set to 'track inventory' and 'track out of stock level' and out of stock level is set to 0. So everything works fine.

Since some of our items move really fast, I would like to make those items able to add to basket even if it has 0 inventory. I try to go into those item specific inventory tab and check 'track inventory' and set 'track out of stock level' to yes and set out of stock level to -9999. But the item is still redirecting to the out of stock page.

Is what I am doing possible in Miva?

    Thanks

Yes but not the way you're doing it. On those specific products just turn off the track out of stock level on their inventory tabs and it'll let you go negative.

      Rick,

I try your suggestion and set the track out of stock level to no but still redirecting to the out of stock page. I am assuming i still need to check the track inventory in the inventory tab correct? Am I missing something else?

        Re: Miva Inventory control question

If you want to allow out of stock items that you are tracking inventory for to be purchased, then you need to make sure that "Track Out of Stock Level" and "Hide Out of Stock Products" are both set to No for that product. There is an inverted reference to this in the Miva Merchant reference guide on page 127. It suggest that you enable "Track Out of Stock Level" and "Hide Out of Stock Product" to prevent customers from ordering out of stock items.

Here's a link to the reference guide:

          jstandifird,

I tried all suggestion but it doesn't seem like it's working. I keep tinker with the product specific inventory tab and it keeps redirect to the POUT page.

          My store inventory setting is

          'track inventory' is checked
'track low level' is not checked
          'low stock level' is 0
'track out of stock level' is checked
'hide out of stock products' is not checked
'out of stock level' is 0

and for the product inventory tab..

          'track product' is checked
          'track low level' is default
          'low stock level' is default
'track out of stock level' is No
'hide out of stock products' is No
'out of stock level' is 0

Are you using variants on this product?

Then you need to make sure those settings are proper on the inactive variant instead of the master product.
                Thanks,

                  Re: Miva Inventory control question

In PR8 update 5 is it possible to: track inventory, allow customers to purchase out of stock items, and also keep track of the negative amount of inventory? e.g. If I have 20 of an item on hand, I'd like a customer to be able to purchase 25 of that item, and in the admin show that the inventory level is -5, so I can take that into account when restocking inventory.

Also is it possible to control inventory at the shipping level? Sometimes customers pay by check and it's never mailed, or a purchase order is placed and a valid signed PO never arrives, etc.

                  Thanks in advance!

                    Rick,

Your suggestion works. I am able to sell items that has 0 inventory. Now, is it possible to display a differrent verbage since now it's display the in stock (short message).

                    Thanks

                        Re: Miva Inventory control question

                        Rick,

I got this to work but I have to check the track inventory at the parent level. Here is am example of an item that has 3 sizes.

                        small (3), medium(0) and large(2)

The goal is to allow sales of size medium and also display a different in stock message.

To accomplish this, I have to check the track inventory on the parent then change the out of stock short message to 'In stock alternative message'. Then on size medium inactive product detail, I have to disabled track out of stock level and hide out of stock inventory.

Is this the only way to accomplish this? Can I do this without the parent track inventory since i dont track the parent item.

                        Thanks

                          Re: Miva Inventory control question

The stock messages are currently only pulled from the master product, not the variants. If you need the stock message to change on a per product basis you have to configure it on the master product. I don't believe there is a way to have one variant have one stock message and another variant have something different without some custom JavaScript.
