Shipping Configuration ???

Hi Everybody:

Sometime ago we bought TheSafeSource.com a Miva store. Its only recently that we have started to get acquainted with it and I ran into this issue a couple of days ago:

The store is set-up to have free shipping for items of less than 300 Lbs. When you go to purchase an item ( a safe) over that weight you get this message during the checkout process:

Shipping could not be calculated for your basket. This may be due to a network or configuration error, or the contents of your basket may not be able to be shipped in a single shipment.

From what I have been reading this has to do with the shipping configuration in the store. Would appreciate any assistance in what is the best way to proceed

What shipping methods are you using for items weighing over 300lbs? The error is saying that the shipping methods available don't allow for single-item 300lb packages.

I am having the same problem in upgrading to PR8. Before, it would display a message "Unable to calculate shipping" and allow the customer to checkout. Now, they cannot do anything, as it spits them back to the OCST page.

How do we turn on a "Unable to calculate shipping - shipping will be calculated after you checkout" option/message? Most customers will leave the store before they email a copy of their order. At least with the option to get back to them later, they can place their order.

I have USPS, UPS and Shipping Supermod and Sort+Free shipping

You could try turning off "require shipping" in the "edit store" section of admin. That should allow for the "Unable" message.

I'm not using PR8, so you'll need someone else to help in that regard.

You can also configure the fallback shipping method which will prevent ever receiving that error (based on your settings).

Rick, I did set a fallback method in Supermod, but that did not work. I still get the error.

nottheusual1, in PR8 that option got removed - pre PR8 that is what we did, but with that option gone and the error message changed, there needs to be another work around...

Right above configuring the fallback shipping method you need to also select Use The Fallback Shipping method on this option box:

I don't have that option... Supermod version 5.5005, is that on the v6?

You're configuring that in the super mod is the problem.

This functionality is built into PR8 Update 4 and higher under the Shipping Rules area (click the + next to Shipping Settings).
