Paypal Express selection jumps back to OCST

We're setting up Paypal Express Checkout (on top of already using Payflow Pro).

In our test environment, and on live trials, Miva jumps from OSEL back to OCST if you choose the Paypal option and click continue.

Does that sound familiar to anyone? As far as we know there is not much here to adjust or change to have caused the error.

I have had a couple of merchants report this same behaviour. Please email [email protected], put ATTN Jim in the subject line and a link to this thread in the body of the email.

I am still gathering information about this problem and information from your store can help us determine the problem.

This is probably because you are requiring the customers phone number in OCST, but not in Paypal. If Paypal doesn't pass along the phone number, it goes back to the OCST for it.

Re: Paypal Express selection jumps back to OCST

We are seeing same behavior..Will jump right out of inline paypal and go back to ocst and then continue within miva checkout. Also worth noting, when it takes you back and you get thru with the already filled in OCST, then onto OSEL, the payment options are gone except just for Paypal... Then onto OPAY, then INVC.

EDIT - The more i look at this and test, perhaps this is just how its supposed to behave, not 100% sure, but in most cases seem preferable so other parts of checkout , like addendum, shipping options etc can work.

You do not have inline setup on the lingerie site at least. Inline means that when you click on the yellow "Checkout with Paypal" button, a pop-up window allows you to sign in and set up payment without leaving your site. Try our site to see what I mean.

When you get to the customer information screen, click on the yellow "Checkout with Paypal" button.

Hi John, looks like my site behaving the same way. We have our paypal button on the BASK page... Perhaps putting them on the OCST page as you did would be better. Anyways, if you click on the paypal in basket it appears to be working as yours is.

            Thanks John

I think you can have it both places. Maybe I should add it to my basket as well.

Re: Paypal Express selection jumps back to OCST

Here's some interesting info that may be related. I just had a store contact me. They are using paypaladv but not express. They have the payment methods for groups module active in their store, however they were not using it for anything as they had not edited the OSEL page template nor had they set any payment "rules". The order number of all of the payment methods was 0, meaning do not use the methods. Normally it would have no affect since they had not edited the OSEL to use that module for the method display. However, with update 11 that module how employs a method rules check before the OPAY page loads. If the rules fail, it sends them back to the OSEL page. In this particular store all methods were listed as 0, meaning no methods were allowed by this module's rules. So although it did not affect the drop down display, it did implement the validity checking of update 11. So if you are using any PAYMENT OR SHIPPING rules modules, make sure the basket is valid for those modules. Now there may be a different issue, but slightly related, of express since it alters the checkout flow a bit.

Is everything you are talking about related to paypaladv? What is payment methods for groups module? How do I make sure the basket is valid?

I don't know about the others. I mentioned the paypaladv and the paygroup modules as it was an observation and related to the new validation checks in update 11. Since it just started happening in other stores (which are not using my paygroup module), you would have to wonder if it is related to some sort of rules check. Suppose you have a shipping rule that you can only ship with a certain method if the order is in a certain subtotal range. They get to the shipping selection and that method shows ok. But when they click continue, tax is added, coupons might deduct, etc, so the method no longer follow the subtotal rule. The method would fail and the customer would be brought back to a previous screen to correct the discrepancy. This is just a simplified example; it could be anything. I'm just wondering if the validation is failing for some rules and shipping modules.

I think I see. You are talking about your modules, correct?

I don't use any of your's for payments, but I do use several for shipping. I tested everything I could think of and they all seem to be working correctly. I do use Payment Supermod for payments and that seems to be working too as I have received multiple types of credit cards as well as Paypal Payments today. I am not using you Paypal module.
                      Thank you,

Yes, my paygroup module. I was talking about the Payment Methods for Groups module which lets you set rules for each payment method. The store I had looked at did not have everything configured correct in the module, but they did not have issues until they updated to 11 and updated the 3rd party modules at the same time.

Interesting..Will need to keep a close on the variables. Thus far all looks good, tried a few things, even disabling a few shipping mods temporarily to see if anything changed. Under my scenarios all worked as should be, plus a few orders today via Paypal without issue.

Jim -- Actually, for some reason I think that's something the customer controls during the checkout process. They've got to check a box or something.

I may be wrong, but ......
