Duplicate Content - Home Page URL

I posted in Bing forums asking about my SEO issues. This is one reply I received. Can anyone speak to this? Thanks!

REPLY/SUGGESTION:

I would start with the home page - make sure and set your Canonical. Is it www or non-www?
Also, it looks like you do not ever link to your home page. Store front link goes to this URL:
www.musicforkids.com/.../merchant.mvc
So, what is your home page? Every page should link consistently home.
I would fix that home page link issue and go from there.
Also, Sign up for Webmaster tools. hope that helps. J

Add this to your .htaccess file:

RewriteEngine On

# rewrite request for site without www to site with leading www
rewritecond %{http_host} ^musicforkids.com
rewriteRule ^(.*) http://www.musicforkids.com/$1 [R=301,L]

Add this to the SFNT template in the head tag section:

<link rel="canonical" href="http://www.musicforkids.com/" />

and most important get a Miva template to improve the site design. It doesn't look very professional. It's pretty inexpensive and will pay off right away.
