What is the risk and LOE for upgrade from MM5.13 to MM5.5?

I am currently running Miva engine v5.13 and in order to get the SEO features and custom category fields in my Miva store that I need, I have to upgrade to MM5.5 so I'm wondering from those of you who have done this, is the jump from v5.13 to v5.5 significant? Will it require a new or difference license? It looks like I can perform this update straight through my Admin Console without involvement from my ISP. Are there any best practices or steps I should take before going to 5.5 other than making sure my 3rd party modules are compatible?

I think you're confusing Engine versions which run from 5.00 to 5.17, which there is no risk in upgrading.

Miva Merchant doesn't have a 5.13, you're either on 4.x or 5 with some amount of patches applied.

Do you know which Miva Merchant version you're running?

Oh okay then I'm just on v5.0 PR4. So I'm looking for advice and precautions when updating from that to MM5.5 with latest PR.

So when upgrading from engine 5.13 MM5.0 to the MM5.5 PR7 -- that will upgrade the Engine to 5.17? And otherwise, no risks, it will still use the same MySQL database and everything?

Got it. That's so long ago I would work with support on running those upgrades and make sure all your mods are updated.

Generally speaking if all your mods are updated you should be fine.

While you're at it, you should have your host upgrade your engine to 5.17 before you run the upgrades.

No the engine upgrade is separate and not directly related, but ideally you'll do it first.

Yes everything will stay on MySQL but if you update all the way you'll be on PR8 Update 7 which is what I recommend.

I would call the 800 number they'll walk you through it. 800-608-MIVA.

Wow, Thanks Rick! Will all of my Page, Category & Storefront customizations remain intact through the upgrade?

You won't lose any page customizations but for example we didn't explicitly declare a doctype until PR5, so you might end up with 2, or if its the first time you have 1 you might find your store looks odd in different browsers.

If you make it to PR7 without issues them you're home free to go up to PR8 Update 7, that's where we started adding a lot of validation to the process to make sure absolutely nothing breaks during an update.

I would probably do the updates one PR at a time FWIW.
                  Thanks,

All I can say is wow!!! I called the support line you gave above, not really knowing what to expect. There was virtually zero wait, and I was greeted by Gene who was very friendly and listened and answered all of my questions, evaluated my Upgrade scenario, and gave feedback and insights on the upgrade process. I have worked in the software business for more than a decade, and rarely have I encountered such levels of expert technical support and customer service! I am not only looking forward to getting up to speed with Miva 5.5, it reinforces my confidence in using Miva as the ecommerce platform for my wife's online jewelry store at http://store.camilee.com -- thank you, Rick! Thanks also to Gene and thank you Miva Merchant!

Welcome to the blessings that many of us already know and use every day. Miva is one of a kind as far as customer support and service. For that reason alone, I do not bother even looking at other e-commerce packages. Saving 10 bucks a month or less is no way worth giving up the hands-on personalized support that Miva gives every day. Rick - the one talking to you - just happens to be the President of Miva....what other company out there has that type of hands on contact with their customers?

                      Now that's impressive customer service!!!
