Updating order status when processing orders in Paypal?

I'm wondering if anyone has a solution to the following...

When a merchant does all their order processing in Paypal (as opposed to Miva Admin) it renders Miva Order Status virtually useless unless you go through a bunch of manual steps in Miva Admin to change order status from "Pending" to "Shipped."

Several merchants I know have opted to remove Order Status/History links from their stores rather than deal with all the "Why hasn't my order shipped yet?" inquiries.

Is there a way to get Paypal and Miva talking to one another so Miva order status can be updated (hopefully automatically) when processing orders from Paypal? Or even a way to ease the process?

Order Status in Miva is related to Shipment not Payment, so PayPal would have no impact at any point.

The fastest way to short circuit that if you're not using Miva for managing shipping is to use the shipping export/import to mark items as shipped in bulk.

      Thanks Rick.

You're right. Paypal has no way to mark an item as shipped, so that's that.

I see the new PR8 Shipping Status Export and Import will let you import tracking numbers from Endicia Dazzle. If you import tracking numbers from Endicia Dazzle, will it automatically (or otherwise) update the shipping status from Pending to Shipped in Miva?

Previous comment aside, I tried using shipping export/import to mark items as shipped. However I wasn't able to make it happen.

I started by doing a shipping export. The exported file does not have a field for shipping status, so I added one and marked everything as shipped.

I figured when I imported the updated file I would be given the option to manually assign my shipping status field to an import field (Miva support indicated I could probably do this). However, this was not the case. The only import fields available to map to are Order, Shipment Code, Track Type, Track Number and Cost.

At this point I don't see how to update the shipping status with the export/import routine.

That's not how it works. When you remimport them with tracking info, it automatically marks them as shipped.

So on reimport what field(s) need to be filled in...just the Track Number? Or do you need some of the other fields too?

Or, is it that shipping export/import is meant to work with UPS/Endicia/FedEx and those services provide all the needed info?

Just the Order Number and Tracking Number. It'll automatically take all the items, put them in a shipment and mark it as shipped (and add the tracking number).
