inventory quantity update by xml provisioning import, how does it affect active flag

Per discussion in a separate topic thread with Burch about how to update quantities via xml provisioning, I am using this xml

<Product_CustomField module="baskinv" product="AA340" field="total_inv">55</Product_CustomField>

I am wondering if the product in question had quantity 0 and also inactive prior to import,
after importing does the inactive flag still remain, or does the provisioning system automatically change it to active?

{hopefully it doesn't get altered, but i need to double check}

It should not change anything but the inventory level.
