    Blog module

I know the default answer is to use WordPress, to integrate the look & feel of the store into WordPress, WordPress, WordPress, WordPress. I'm a huge fan of WordPress, but I also understand the security issues as it relates to ecommerce, PCI and Miva Merchant. So with that said, has anyone created a module to be able to create posts with summaries listed on a single page/pages which link to the full post ala WordPress but within Miva Merchant. I seem to recall YEARS ago someone had tried offering something that used mivascript to build a CMS, but my thoughts are more withing the Miva Merchant store admin that the store owner is comfortable using.

    Thanks!

    Re: Blog module

We've got 4 sites running the latest version of WordPress (3.5.1) that are having no problems with scans or PCI. It's too easy, and 3 of them are posted to via Emails, so there's rarely a need to use the admin interface - they are more likely to have us do whatever needs done occasionally out of not "caring how the watch works."

    They love it. Bonus.

Yes, I know - I have used WordPress on a number of sites. I have integrated store look & feels into them. I agree it's the easiest way to go, but...

I think Ray or Tim had a way to pull in the global header/footer dynamically from MM. Ray also pulled posts into MM without using an iframe.

While not a "blog" but more of a forum style that could be modified to do blog things...Scotsscript.com Forum module might work.

I can and know how to do this - but it still involves using WordPress.

I'm now dinking around with a category/product combination - creating a template for each that strips out all most all of the category/product information.

That's one way...certainly something we've done before. It doesn't give a real clean interface for creating posts and there is no way for viewers to comment though.

What PCI/security issues are you worried about with Wordpress? As long as you keep Wordpress patched, the application is secure. It shouldn't share a database with your Miva Merchant store, so there really shouldn't be much of a concern about data leakage. We maintain a (now defunct) Wordpress blog on the same domain as our store and don't have any issues with PCI compliance scans. Seems silly to try to recreate Wordpress if you don't really need to.

The thinking is just to build a library of infomation - no comments needed.

I don't want to hijack this thread, but I do have a question. Are comments used anymore on most blogs? I can see adding this as a core feature to MM, but likely without Commenting.

                    Thoughts?

Not a hijack - it's a good question. I do still see comments being used on the WordPress apps I have installed.

                        @Rick

I follow quite a few blogs where there are a lot of comments, but I think it's content specific. You're probably right that most blogs deployed by companies to complement their store do not emphasize comments.

                          Re: Blog module

To further hijack, I was looking at a way to pull in blog posts into a specific product page when the post is about that product. I was thinking of tagging the post with the SKU and then doing a search on the MM side to only show recent posts with that tag. Has anyone accomplished something like that that I may be able to take a look at?

What about leveraging a third party like Disqus for the comments? Seems to be a very popular solution that could easily be integrated.
