Sitemap: What Triggers an Update

Does anyone know what specifically triggers Miva to update the sitemap.xml file (adding products, removing products, etc.)?

I noticed that our sitemap stopped updating for nearly a week. We had removed a product, but the sitemap didn't get updated, causing 404 errors with Google Feed Crawl.

What sitemap.xml ? I was only aware that Merchant produced a sitemap.html.

Our Miva 5.5 site exports the sitemap in XML format to our "httpdocs" directory. I assumed that the XML sitemap is what is generated when the Site Map is enabled in SEO Settings. Now I am wondering if I have a 3rd party module that generates this.

It's a third party mod, we don't have that built in.

If its our module (Merchant Moogle), you'll find it in your utilities folder. (And the update is manual...but it only takes a few seconds to run).

I was able to determine that we are using Emporium Plus Template Data Feed to export our sitemap.xml file. I still haven't determined what is automatically triggering it to run, but have gotten a step closer.

Template Data Feed is fired manually under the Utilities section of the admin. A Cron job has to be setup on the hosting side in order for this to be automated. If your not sure if that is in place, may want to contact your host.

...although its not imperative that you keep resubmitting the sitemap. You only need to do it when you add/remove categories and products. We are adding that feature to our site map module in the near future.

Many stores are using the cron task to run it automatically during the night. The instructions for setting that up are in the install/usage doc.
