Its been since Miva 4.24 since I had to do this. I just want to have the product count in each category show on the category tree in Miva 5.5. What is the best way to do this?
If you don't use availability groups, the most efficient would be to run the count periodically and store the values in a custom category field. Then display the value from that field as the tree displays. You could run the count at runtime but that would resource intensive on every page load.
Isn't there a setting that can do this? I know there used to be in the previous versions. What happened to that? It seems 5.5 is so much more convoluted to achieve simple stuff that used to be point and click.
So there is not a way for the store to automatically show the product counts in the categories on the category tree???? There will be a lot of products, manually doing this like Bill suggests is not practical, especially once I turn the store over to the client.
There is a feature in the Emporium Plus Tool Kit that takes a single button click to run the count. But you would need to do that whenever you add/delete products or put products into new categories.
My client currently has an eBay store where it shows the product count in each category. He just wants his site to do the same so it show that he has hundreds of products in the store right away.
You can get a product count today if that's all you need.
Go to the Category, click Edit. Then click the Products Tab and click the Assigned Button.
Then adjust the number in the lower right corner to be very high and the number in the lower left corner will show you the count. See my screen shot for an example.
Thanks Rick. Actually need the toolkit, because the issue was that the client wanted to see the product count in the category tree. Its working and looks great. Still in beta here.
