Adding & Managing an Upgrade Plan/Subscription Option

A client sells software, and wants to be able to offer a 1 Year Upgrade Plan with software purchases. This would be an option that the customer would check on the product's page, and not a separate product.

Adding a checkbox option with a price associated is easy enough, but is there anything in MIVA or any 3rd party modules that can help manage customers who opted for this plan? I need a good way to keep track of customers who purchased this plan, as well as when their 1 year is up, what software they purchased, any options associated with their software (OS for example), and also have the ability to contact customers when upgrades are available or when their year is about to expire.

I have been searching around, but any modules that looked like they might have helped are ancient and seem to be gone from the miva module stores that I get linked to.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is no out of the box module I'm aware of, but you can achieve most this functionality by creating a custom batch report (located under utilities). You could create report which returns all the orders that have this option selected along with any other data you need and export it as a csv.

This would require you to manually run this report daily and determine which orders need to be renewed and take some action.

If you wanted to add some more automation, you could add more functionality where the batch report automatically emails customers X number of days before the expiration and even run the batch report automatically though a cron job and Miva's enterprise tools.
