Help: fatal error - Unknown page 'index'

I just flipped to switch to MM5.5 and encountered the following fatal error after enabling SEO friendly store front...

Miva Merchant has encountered a fatal error and is unable to continue. The following information may assist you in determining the cause of the error:
    Error Code: MER-TUI-MGR-00011
    Description: Unknown page 'index'
    Other Information:

Basically, I want to utilize the SEO settings in MM5.5 to have my miva store front now be the landing page for my domain name. Consequently, I needed to change the link to get back to my Brick 'n Mortar Store from my Miva Store Front:
    From: www.bronsondesign.com
    To: www.bronsondesign.com/index.html

that's where the fatal error arises.

I had to disable the SEO friendly store front temporarily until I find a fix. Any ideas?

Does your host support mod_rewrite via .htaccess files?

What does the content of your .htaccess file look like?

I didn't have one. Does MM5.5 SEO settings automatically create one for you?

Re: Help: fatal error - Unknown page 'index'

Here is a work-around that seems to do the trick.
I copied my existing index.html file to index.htm
        No more fatal error.

I guess Miva's 'SEO friendly store front' feature does not like you to have an index.html file.

So now I need to either create a new index.htm file everytime I touch my Brick 'n Mortar's index.html file or change all my existing links on my Brick 'n Mortar site to the new index.htm. PITA

I've got about a dozen interrelated pages that made up my brick 'n motar site that were created before I even ever heard of Miva Merchant. There's got to be an easier way.

BTW, I spoke too soon about my "fix". Any internal page link I clicked on from my domain (http://www.bronsondesign.com) returned a fatal error. Unknown page 'xxx'

I disabled the SEO settings, and the fatal error no longer happens. But I really want to enable the SEO settings. Working through it now with Hostasaurus Support.

The error says "Description: Unknown page 'index' " That indicates that under merchant admin > pages there is no page called index. Create one and see if it fixes it. All of those static pages can be moved into corresponding pages in merchant.

I see what you're saying. I was able to create a page called index. All the other pages would also need to be moved to merchant. The problem is that I have a fair amount of incoming links to those pages outside of merchant, since I've had the domain for close to 10 years. Isnt there a way for the .htaccess file to fix this?

I'll defer to the .htaccess experts who are probably gone for the weekend.

I believe that you have chosen a problematic mix of settings for your SEO settings. The 5.5 SEO settings do indeed create a .htaccess file and what is happening is that the settings you have chosen are causing your xxxx.html pages to get mapped to a Miva page named xxxx, which normally doesn't exist.

Send me your SEO settings, either a screen shot of the admin or just a copy of your .htaccess file, and I will see if I can make a recommendation that can solve your problem.

                      Hi Mark:

His issue was the .htaccess REQUEST_URI problem I posted under the 5.5 bugs sticky.

I released that a little while ago. That bug has definitely been fixed and will go out in a stream later this week or early next.

cool... so once the stream is released, I'll be able to toggle on/off the SEO-friendly store front feature w/o it adversely affecting my static .html pages that reside outside of Miva?

That's correct. There was an error in the way we attempting to let those pages through. Jen from Hostasaurus figured out what we were doing wrong. It is corrected for the next release.

Would this issue have anything to do with: when ever I use teh SEO Freindly front page it Defaults my main home page (index.html) for my site to Miva front page? I since turned it off I would like it to leave my main front end site alone.
