Miva Search Function?

Is there a way to alter Miva's search function so that it only searches the Product Title fields and/or searches for the exact search terms.

For instance if you keyword phrase is "blue socks" it will only show instance where "blue socks" show up and all instances for "blue" and "socks".

An inexpensive 3rd party module, Power Search, can be set to only search specific fields or you can let the customer choose which fields to search. The customer also has options for searching "OR" or "AND" or "EXACT PHRASE" or "BEGINNING OF THE WORD".

Thanks, I was just reading about Power Search. Looks just about perfect. One thing I'm trying to figure out from the documents is if the setting are global. In other words, can I have one search box where the results come from searching both the name and title fields and another search box where it's searching only the name field?

It is the same page, ie SRCH. You can go to http://www.pinemporium.com/mm5/merch...&Store_Code=PE and see how it works. The name is the title field. Don't you mean name vs description?

Yeah, I saw that. However, I need to get it to work from the homepage:

the search box and "Select a Manufacturer" are both passing search terms through. However, I need the search box to search everything, but I need the pull-down menu to search only the name field.

In your page you would have 3 search forms. The search with the text input could search all fields. The manufacturer could search the name field or even a custom field. The same with the year field.

In the nav bar is a search input for all fields. In the lower category column are drop downs for genre and decade.

So it does not have to be on the search screen? Great! And I could set it all up using the Power Search module?

Right. The search forms can be on any screen. The results are displayed in the SRCH screen. Using store morph you can make that search screen look like you want it. The power search does the searching. You customize the page look.

Bill - I understand this module is highly customizable and I am impressed with all the features that you have built in to the module. I am just curious if there is substantial configuration involved out of the box, or if the basic configuration as illustrated on PinEmporium web example can be accomplished with minimal effort. I would like to customize as much as possible but at the moment I just need to improve search capabilities across the store in a generic fashion. Thanks!

Out of the box you will be able to improve the search. It has a basic layout of found products. If you want to alter that, you would edit the page template to change the layout.
