Process Partial Payment

I searched other postings - spent about 20 minutes looking before I posted my question.......

On my site, I run customers through a series of questions that actually adds item to the basket depending upon their answer. At the end, they are presented with the ability to review their website subscription, and then agree to pay a 50% deposit with the balance paid over the next 12 months. Is there a way to automatically reduce the dollar amount to 50% of the total and then have that amount sent over for processing? I'm trying to automate as much as possible, and don't want to manually change something that is the same on every order.

What if you used the 50% amount in the price field, and the full amount in the cost field. Then you can use custom coding/wording to display the cost field to the customer as the total amount. The price field will calculate the amount they owe right now and be charged correctly.

Another option if you have emporium plus toolkit is the math functions. Again use the 50% amount in the price field and use the math functions to display the price field multiplied by 2. If you don't have toolkit already, it is very handy and has lots of functions to do all kinds of cool stuff. And it is cheap.

Eitherway you will have to have someway to track your orders/balances due outside of miva. Not sure if there is a built in way to handle it. Though if you are looking for a way to have past customers make payments on their outstanding balance your could probably us the External Product Purchase module. Also from emporium plus. This allows customers to pay any amount they enter. You could name it something like, make a payment.

You could perform the initial sale for half of the amount and then you can create reference transaction for the future payments. This all can be done manually in your gateway or you can get a custom program written up for you to handle the transactions via your gateway's API.

Not sure if there is already software out there that can be customized to handle your situation.

And yet another way, perhaps less complicated and less prone to customer shaking their heads. Leave everything as is, but add a coupon (and module if you don't already have a coupon module) and call it something like "Less Balance on Account". Be sure to use a coupon module that also lets you change the message of the coupon prompt, this could be something like, "State Payment terms here"....and...."To agree to these payment terms, type "I Agree" below. (Of course, you use "I Agree" as the coupon code". Then, you are only left with figuring out how to get the other 50%.
