    Website search engine software

Any suggestions for search engine software that will search my entire site including Miva pages and PHP pages?

    Thanks,
    Dave

Check SearchSpring - it may be what you are looking for.

      Leslie,

I'll keep that open as an option, but I'd rather buy a piece of software that I own outright and don't have to pay a monthly subscription fee.

Have you heard of Zoom Search? It came up when I was doing a google search and looks fairly robust-

I'd also look at Google...you can create a custom search for your own site.

          Bruce,

I don't want google ads included and their paid service is around $2000 (unless you're referring to a different Google option). I don't mind paying $100 or lower for a piece of search software, but that's about it.

          Thanks,
          Dave

not sure how many searches you have, but the baseline package with Google Site Search is $100 a year

I just found out about the Google Site Search a few minutes ago. I didn't see the option earlier.

It appears my options for quality search are:

              1. Google- http://www.google.com/sitesearch/
              2. Zoom Search- http://www.wrensoft.com/zoom/
              3. Aleadsoft- http://www.aleadsoft.com/search-engine-builder-pro

Anyone have any experience using any of these or have a different suggestion?

              Thanks,
              Dave

We started with Zoom. It is pretty impressive as far as features. However, the reason we moved to the Google product is that with Zoom you manually update the search results database with their desktop application and then upload the files to your web server. Google is an automated solution (like most). Zoom may have changed, but that's why we quit using it.

So it sounds to me that if you have a website with fairly static content and you don't mind running the Zoom application once or twice a year, it's a good solution. That may work well on one of my other websites that has fairly static instruction content and sits behind a password protected members area.

                  Thanks,
                  Dave
