    Authorize.net - error establishing connection

One of our client sites just starting throwing this error at the end of the checkout process:

Unable to authorize payment: Unable to open URL 'https://secure.authorize.net/gateway/transact.dll': Error establishing SSL connection: certificate verify failed
    Unable to authorize payment:

Is anyone else seeing this? I don't know when exactly it started, but not more than one hour ago as they had an order an hour ago at 3:51pm Pacific Time.

    Thanks!

Yes, we're seeing it as well. I just got off of Live Chat with Authroize.net. Here is what they are saying:

There was a system change scheduled. This change is our SSL certificate renewal for https://secure.authorize.net. This may cause some connection issues. We are working to resolve these issues.

Thanks for the response Michael. I changed the site over to simple validation for now until authorize.net works it out.

If anyone hears that it's working again please post it here...I will do the same. Thanks!

I think they may be back up again, we switched over for a short time, and have now switched back and orders are going through just fine.

Couple of our clients have noticed the same problem about 45 minutes ago, but as of 5:15pm PST they both reported that everything is back to normal. Guess there was a hiccup on Authorize.net end.

Did anyone get an official response from Authorize.net that they had resolved the problem?

Re: Authorize.net - error establishing connection

It appears authorize.net is attempting to switch to a new server gated cryptography (SGC) SSL certificate, and most likely the issue is that Miva Empresa does not have one of the intermediate certificate roots in its repository, so technically this is an Miva Empresa issue, but it looks like authnet has backed out the new certificate so I can't find the missing intermediate and generate the new cert file like we did the last time this occurred. I should also point out this is not Miva's fault, there's no central announcement forum that all certificate root providers send updates of deployment of new intermediates, it's just something that has to be worked through when a problem like this occurs.

                Hi David,

Thank you for chiming in with helpful information as always. I noticed Authorize.net definitely had a different ssl certificate installed a couple hours ago when the problem occurred than they do now, and it seems to make sense that they backed out of the change as the current certificate looks to expire on the 11th. Any ideas on next steps to resolve this?

                Best, Sean

Re: Authorize.net - error establishing connection

Is anyone else here concerned about flipping the switch back on with Authorize.net (knowing that they have only postponed the renewal as their current certificate is set to expire on Saturday April 11th 2009) only to have the same problem happen on the weekend?

Has anyone from Miva been in touch with Authorize.net to find out what the precise problem was and whether or not we will need to make any adjustments prior to their impending certificate renewal?

Re: Authorize.net - error establishing connection

I just got off the phone with Authorize.net.

They've decided to postpone implementing the new certificate and it will be fully tested with Miva Merchant before that happens.

The old certificate has been renewed by the same vendor and it's the same type. It will be installed at 3 PM Pacific today and you shouldn't have any issues.

If you do have any issues, contact us or Authorize.net immediately. They'll be standing by to make sure this goes smoothly.
                    Thanks,

                      Rick,

Thank you so much for following up on this for us!

If anyone else is watching this thread and wants to post a "yes, everything looks good" after the SSL certificate is updated at 3PM PDT today, I'd certainly appreciate it.

Re: Authorize.net - error establishing connection

I can confirm the new certificate looks to be in place. New issue date of April 8th, 2009 and new expiration date of April 11, 2011.

Can anyone here confirm that your orders are going through properly?

Re: Authorize.net - error establishing connection

Well, in case anyone else was watching this thread, I can say that we've had no problem transitioning back to using Authorize.net since their renewed certificate was installed at approximately 3:20pm. Knock on wood.
