      Re: Wombat Beta - Feedback

Wombat will automatically test for module compatibility issues and make sure your store doesn't break. It will stop you from updating without breaking your store if it detects any issues.

I will also post a final list of those modules this week when we release.

We currently have over 300 people on Wombat and no stores have broken during the update. A few stores had minor issues getting the update to install and we helped in those cases. But our system is designed to ensure your store won't break during the upgrade.

        Re: Wombat Beta - Feedback

If you are not involved in the beta test, you did not need to update any modules unless you were doing so to get new features. If you are involved in the beta test, then you accepted the fact there would be many frequent updates and possibly bugs. Live stores should not be involved in the beta testing.

When beta Wombat RC3 (and the public release) is available it will be checking to make sure you have module versions compatible with Wombat. I suspect most modules have been updated for the Wombat MMUI, which is what you have. So you will know before you update if you need to update a module.

New stores started after Wombat is released will be using a different user interface, CSSUI. Many of the changes I am making to my modules at this time are due to the CSSUI; but those won't affect you.

Do you want stagnant software? Developers continually add features to their modules. For example, I recently added multiple category and product page templates (w/sorting, pagination, products per page, first letter filtering, etc) capability to the Tool Kit. Most store owners welcome new feature additions. Those are optional updates which you can skip if you don't need the feature.

That all said, it is a good idea to wait a few days after a new release before you update. That way, if there are issues, somebody else will encounter them before you. It is like a game of chicken, somebody has to go first.

Hi. I may be asking some stupid questions that have already been answered in this forum so please forgive me in advance.

            1. I was wondering if we have a list of modules that do not work in Wombat is available and if upgrades are available.
            2. If you upgrade to Wombat, does anything in your store break: Concerns I have are google checkout, paypal, authorize.net payment service, customization done with toolkit, templates, category trees, css as a whole, and so on.
            3. Anyone that has upgraded and was willing to share how easy it was or problems would be appreciated.

              1. Here is the list that developers have provided us. Wombat (PR 7, not the beta stream) will be testing for these and either preventing installation or warning to go get an update.

              3. We have roughly 300 people running on RC2 or later and we've seen very few issues overall and no issues where the store stopped running during the upgrade.

All of that said, prudence is best. Make sure you or your host have a good backup, put your store in Maintenance mode, then run the update.

Thanks Rick for the fast and clear response. That is a surprising short list of problem modules. I will get in touch with emporium plus about toolkit and power search.

                    Order Fulfillment Modules emails
When setting an item's status under Order Processing to Backordered, the store sends an email immediately. If I try to resend the email by clicking on the Order Fulfillment Modules tab of the order, checking the Process box for Back Order Confirmation HTML Email, nothing is sent.

Is this expected, and if so, what's the purpose of the Order Fulfillment Modules tab? The Customer Order Confirmation HTML Email seems to be the only one that is send on demand from that tab.

Jim has told me that this is how the software was written. You cannot resend the backorder, shipment or return confirmation emails.

You can only resend, customer order confirmation, and merchant notification emails.

Seems to me that you should be able to resend all.
                    Any thoughts on this?

                        Hey Rick,

Not sure if this is a problem or not, but I figured I would mention it because I don’t know how others are running their stores or if it could be a problem for them.

I was just running some test orders... I clicked on the "ship to" link and pulled up a test customer name. I forgot to check the "Update Both Addresses" box and continued through the order process.

In the last step of the process I went to the "Order Fulfillment Module" and selected both "Customer Order Confirmation Email" and Email Merchant Notification". However, only the Email Merchant Notification went through, the Customer Order Confirmation did not.

I tried it again with both 'Ship To' and 'Bill To' selected and it worked fine.

So I guess, the bottom line is that you must have both addresses filled in for the Customer Order Confirmation to be sent.

                        Thanks

                          Hey Rick,

Not to throw a wrench but I have a site in development. We just upgraded to RC-3. We are working on the products and just noticed if a product is flagged as active and you deactivate it in the product edit screen everything appears to work but the product still shows up in the store. When you go back to the product edit screen it is flagged as active again.

                            Rick,

I know that's not happening universally (as in it's not happening in all 3 of my RC3 stores, including the mivamerchant.com store), send me some info offline and we'll look at it.

If anyone happens to get this error at checkout completion after updating to RC3:

Runtime error in 5.00/merchant.mvc @ [0000000e:00000628]: merchant.mv: Line 1080: MvDO: Unable to find function 'FulfillmentModule_ProcessOrder'

You will have to follow these steps:

                              1. Assign Return Confirmation HTML Email, Shipment Confirmation HTML Email and Back Order Confirmation HTML Email modules in Utilities.

                              2. Unassign the same modules.

                              3. Assign them again.

The error is due to moving the configuration to Utilities. Besides the nasty error message no fulfillment emails get sent. The order goes through and should be in Manage Orders and Legacy Order Processing.

It has already been fixed so anyone updating to PR7 without going through Wombat will not have this problem.

                                Status emails

Return Confirmation HTML Email, Shipment Confirmation HTML Email and Back Order Confirmation HTML Email all show a numerical code for the status. Is there a way to show a status that will be meaningful to the customer?

I am seeing the actual value 200 in the email as opposed to the status "shipped".
