USPS: moving to production server issue

I went through the whole procedure of signing up with USPS, getting a "Web Tools User ID," etc. But when I told the USPS that I want to be moved to the production server, this is what they wrote back:

    Dear USPS Customer,

Thank you for contacting us. The test logs under your UserID do not show valid test requests. We are unable to move your account to the production server until a valid test request is received. If you are using third party software, testing is not required. However, you must provide us with the name of the software you are using. We can then update your account.

Thank you for using the USPS.

If I understand it correctly, testing the USPS rate calculator doesn't work in MIVA, and that we should go directly to the production server, right? In any case, it sounds like the simplest course of action is to provide the name of the software. Anyone know what that is? Or perhaps an alternate way to solve this problem?

    Thanks
    Mark

That's the first I've seen of that but yes, just try telling them you use the MIVA Merchant shopping cart which includes USPS functionality built-in and see if that works.

Their instructions also mention to tell them you are using a third party shopping cart - which I believe they know does not work in test mode.

Be sure you include that information when you contact them back.

        Dear All,

I have a client who is trying to go Live with USPS. If we leave the original URL in there, nothing happens. We do not get any prices for the items selected. If we put in the URL USPS gave us, it throws an error.

Anyone know what the correct URL is for the Production Server? This is on a V5 store. They ran Tests and were OK. USPS says they should be live now.
        Thank You,

I'm using http://production.shippingapis.com/ShippingAPI.dll and it works fine.

Also regarding converting to production. Its quicker to call and do it by phone. I called minutes after signing up and was activated immediately. I told them I use MIVA and provided my user ID.

It worked, thank you. The USPS has switched me to the production server.

Now I have to get the module itself working, USPS is not showing up as a choice during checkout. However, I think it's because I just changed the DNS for the site's domain today. During development I have been using the temporary URL provided by my host, and the USPS probably doesn't recognize that. If it still isn't working after the DNS change has had time to take affect, I'll be back to the forum for help.

            I'm using:
            http://Production.ShippingAPIs.com/ShippingAPI.dll
but then again, I haven't got mine working yet as I explained above.

Nope, that won't matter, the USPS doesn't actually know what your domain is, they just see the incoming request using your username and provide an answer to whatever requested the rate.

The most common reason it would not display a rate is that your products have no weights or the module does not have a mail method enabled that could accommodate what was in your basket at the time. For example, we often see customers import products and forget to assign weights, so the USPS rate server refuses to give a rate back when the store queries them for a zero pound shipment to wherever. Second most common issue is having 20 pounds of stuff in your basket but the module is only configured to allow USPS Express or something similar so the order would be too heavy for the only shipping type you've enabled.

It's working now, and let's just say it did not have anything to do with the domain name. Thanks to all.
