Where are we on Miva offering a persistant basket of 30 days? Work arounds?

The only info I could find on this was really old. Is this possible with the latest version of Miva?

And if so, how is inventory handled? As in, if the site is high traffic and people put a lot of stuff in their baskets, does the site run out of inventory in 5 mins, or is there an elegant way to sequester the basket without taking inventory off the shelf, unless they come back in 30 days and order.

Any pitfalls?

You can set the Basket to 30 days now, but I'd suggest you then change to inventory deducted at checkout instead of when added to the basket.

If changing to 30 day basket expiry, and inventory at checkout, don't forget to set up the scheduled task to auto delete expired baskets, and also delete ALL baskets before changing the inventory method so you don't end up losing inventory that has already been deducted by adding to basket.

Should the store be placed on maintenance mode or this process?

It is recommended to place the store in maintenance mode when changing the inventory mode. You will get a popup message (http://screencast.com/t/Hjx1ifp9Q7) to confirm the change and a recommendation to delete ALL shopping baskets after placing your store in maintenance mode.

We may have a different solution for "persistent" baskets that still allows you to keep a short basket timeout (so you can be more on top of actual inventory). Its an integration and still working through some refinements but should be ready very soon. If interested, drop us and line and we can discuss the details a bit more.
