New to Miva. Not happy with current host. Been checking out WebNet Hosting. Thoughts? Recommendations? I have noticed browsing through this forum that hostasaurus and wolfpaw are popular choices.

Most of the "big guys" configure for sites fine, but not for MM specifically.Best,

Re: Hosting questions
I hope you were referring to the host mentioned in the original post, not to the message immediately above from Pamela! :-))) (if you read all responses it sort of flows into that - just wanted to clarify for anyone confused that we most certainly do support MIVA Merchant)

Re: Hosting questions
I dealt with one of the "Big Guys" the other night that could not even handle a vBulletin upgrade. (had to switch servers to get the latest version of MySQL) I also asked them to get a MIVA Merchant 5 store up and running along side an existing MIVA Merchant 4 store... dead silence.
Needless to say my client switched hosts that night :)

Re: Hosting questions
Thank you for the responses. I have another question. I see that Hostasaurus is listed on the premiere hosting but wolfpaw isn't. All over the Miva forum are testimonies of Wolfpaw's Miva hosting.

Re: Hosting questions
The primary difference is money. We choose not to pay for a Premier Partnership.
You can see the designations here:

Re: Hosting questions
Vic is right... the "Premier Hosting" vs. "Standard Hosting" means absolutely nothing in the quality of services provided by the companies listed there. In my opinion, those two lists are completely useless. Some of those hosts should not even be allowed anywhere near MIVA Merchant.

Re: Hosting questions
Well, i am sure most of the hosts in the prior posts are great miva hosts... regarding the big boys i was with hostway for 7 years and yes they can get miva running but for effeciency and other issues you had to have your support ticket submitted to so-called third level support team - very ineffecient..- things worked most of the time - but if i really needed some help with miva- its not a host i would chose.
I am at Cybrhost now - strong servers, fast fast. It feels nice to be able to talk to someone about miva for change and have them understand it. Also, support response is very quick. Also they do alot, that i usually woundn't expect a host to do. And yes they know miva well. They are one of the few MIVA hosting company that specialize exclusively in Miva ecommerce. Just wish they had a full featured host controller there though i think good support and miva knowledge is more important than this. And I love that they have opened a port for email - as i was never able to put out bulk email to my customers due to port 25 blocking - and i never need to change my mail settings when i am on the road.. :) dont know about others, but no other host i have been with does this..
I think you are ok so long as you use someone who is dedicated to Miva. But, any of the hosts recommended here - will probably be good - again try not to go by the miva site as to what is a hosting partner ....Last edited by nordicwolf; 02-06-07, 05:26 PM.

Re: Hosting questions
I had a horrible experience with WebNet Hosting. Response time was sometimes in the weeks. On one occasion they completely forgot to respond to my ticket, and only after a couple of weeks when I reminded them, they responded.
Anyway, any of the hosts active on this forum are great! :)
edit:
Oh yeah! And WebNet had no clue about MIVA.Last edited by Red Flare; 02-07-07, 12:25 AM.
