I am more interested in user-friendly interface.
      1. Each of Product Attributes (PAs) should have a quantity field next to it. There should only be one Add to Cart button for the entire kit.
      2. Customer should be able to edit, add, delete PAs after they have added custom kit to basket.
      3. If they save their custom kit to wish list, later when they come back, all of the customization should be saved. (This is an ideal world feature :))
      4. PAs should be subdivided into subgroups for ease of use. I.e., as in my emergency kit example right now: shelter, water, food, first aid, etc.
      5. On the admin side and in customer invoice, PAs should be easily identifiable.
      6. If customer chooses more then one kit with different PAs, it should become a separate line item on an invoice.

      thanks,

      alex
I'm also looking for a module that can do what you are requesting. Does anyone know if there has been a module created that can accomplish this?

Any update to this post? I aslo need something similar or a way to make global attributes templates to contain other products, ie an sku number for the attribute.

Re: Creating Kits or bundles of Products

Hi, I did contact ADS (Advanced Development Solutions ) in June of 2007 (tried to be a beta tester). It appeared a kit module was close to being available, Scheduled for June 30th. I have not been able to located it. Have not followed up since, until today.

I probably could not use it anyway due to the answer to my questions from ADA:
Each Kit is individually built and can be configured with multiple groups and products. The kit can not be applied to multiple products. Each "product" in the kit would be inventoried. The module does work with Merchant built in inventory system.

I need the kit to be applied to 140 products, changes to the Global kit contents would update the kits on all 140 products at the same time. Does not appear it would have worked this way, at least in June 2007.

What I need an an SKU number field for Global Options that can be applied to may products.
There were a couple of carts that made it simple. Essentially, you would specify that an attribute type is a product (accessory) and enter the sku number or select the product from a list when creating the product attributes. Most other carts insist on creating sub-sku's, which I don't want.

Thanks for inquiring about our modules. One of the Merchant updates adversely effected the functionality of the module as it uses the Upsale flag for its functionality, MIVA changed the way upsale products are handled in the basket. Currently we do not have any news as to when or if the module will be updated and released.

Can you email me what change you're talking about that adversely affected your module, this is not of my radar.

What I want to do is be able to choose what goes in a bundle, and set a bundle discount. This bundle should calculate and recalcualte (if there is a change in component price) its price based on its components.

... I just thought of something. Will the Kit Maker have the following capabilities?

                        1. Each of Product Attributes (PAs) should have a quantity field next to it. There should only be one Add to Cart button for the entire kit.
                        2. Customer should be able to edit, add, delete PAs after they have added custom kit to basket.

Re: Creating Kits or bundles of Products

My 5x version won't be markedly different from my 4x version. It will facilitate the functionality described by samgold at the beginning of this post, "if you buy products A,B,C and D together as bundle ABCD you get a discount." This covers the majority of those needing a kit feature.
                          http://www.emporiumplus.com/go/wcw/PROD/1AAB/1AA00102
would be an example of this.

The products and quantities in the kit are fixed by the store owner. They are not changeable by the customer, ie if the customer adds a kit and then takes all components out except one, why would you still give them the kit discount?

Wish list. That would be up to the wish list module. http://www.emporiumplus.com/go/wcw/PROD/1AA/1AA00082
saves any attributes of a product to the wish list so they can be recalled.

The store owner lists the components. They can be in any order you want them.

Letting the customer build the kit can be done without a module. You can use attributes of a product with drop down selections.
                          http://www.emporiumplus.com/go/wcw/PROD/1AAB/1AA00101
would be a basic example of that.

                            WCW,
                            You have:
"Letting the customer build the kit can be done without a module. You can use attributes of a product with drop down selections.
                            http://www.emporiumplus.com/go/wcw/PROD/1AAB/1AA00101
would be a basic example of that."

When you get the order, do you see the separate SKU# for each of the contents of the dropdown? That's what I need with Global attributes.

                            Thanks,
                            Bob

No. In that example they are attributes to the main product. You see the main "kit" product. Under it you see the attributes which lists each of choosen items. That said, you can make the option codes the same as those items' product codes. So you would see a list of SKUs under the "kit" product. Inventory of the individual items is not decremented with the order so for products that have stock levels, you have to be aware of what is selling and adjust manually.

Well, my reason to have a "kit builder" module is to offer customers the flexibility of building their very own custom kit, not to offer a discount. That is why I would like to have the functionality that I described above.
