Import Products from flat file problem

There seems to be a problem in the "import products from flat file" routine.

I have upgraded to Miva Merchant 5.5 PR7 Release Candidate 1 (wombat-rc1)

I created a product import file and when I ran the import I got the following.

"57 products in file, 0 created, 0 replaced, 0 updated, 57 not processed"

I checked the log and here is what I found.

Product Import Started on 2010/03/30 at 17:06
Product Error. Error processing Product Code 'PREM-2PC-F'. Error Message: Please enter a number
Product Error. Error processing Product Code 'PREM-2PC-L'. Error Message: Please enter a number
Product Error. Error processing Product Code 'PREM-2PC-L-LM'. Error Message: Please enter a number
.
.
.

Next I tried replacing the product codes with numbers and I got the same results. If you leave the product code blank the message is "Please specify a code".

I tried this using Add New Products and Add New and Update Existing Products.

Check the price field and make sure you only have numbers- no $ signs or other currency symbols.

Both cost and price are formated as 1,234.00

There should not be a comma in there.

besides the error in the log is "Product Error. Error processing Product Code" it doesn't say anything about there being a problem with the price field.

Bill is correct- try taking out the comma and see if that makes a difference. The log file just uses the product code to identify which line item is giving the error- it doesn't necessarily mean the issue is with the actual product code.

ok removing the commas worked. I don't think I have found that to be a problem in the past. I have used the import on a lot of sites both 4.x and 5.x.

It took me a minute to realize that this error was caused by me not checking off First Line of File is a Header Row. The import went through as soon as I checked that box.

The import is still squirrelly. I'm getting the message "Code must be 50 characters long or shorter" - the Product Code is only 6 characters. So is it referring to the Product Name? It is more than 50 characters. And why is this now a problem?

I do find it incredibly difficult to upload products since the upgrade. With 30+ fields, many of them having data of only 1 or 0, it can be problematic to match them all correctly without headers. I found it much better when the program would refuse only the problem rows, which I could then add manually if I couldn't get them to upload separately. I don't have the time to add 80 products one at a time. This post may belong in a feedback thread, but I just wanted to add my two cents.
