    Re: Gold Candidate Stream

This IS easy to miss. A javascript popup would be nice. The Safari browser update a few months ago broke the template data feed (TDF), probably for the same reason. I have a FAQ about it but I still get an email once a week on it. With TDF it is no big deal. They just change browsers and go on their merry way. With this streaming update, telling a store owner the list of things they need to do would be devastating on support (delete this patch, remove this line from that database, etc, etc).

      Rick,

The very first screen of the upgrade wizard where you have the checkbox next to "Initial release of Miva Merchant 5.5 (production-5)"... How about making the note "THIS UPDATE WILL NOT WORK IN SAFARI" in huge red letters? Won't look pretty, but will get the point across. Since this appears to be loading from mivamerchant.com servers, your team should be able to make a small change to this screen quite easily.

Of course this will only come up if one selects the "Review and Manually Select Updates" option, not the "Automatic Installation"... which, if you ask me, I think it should be removed altogether. The store owner should ALWAYS be shown a list of things that will be updated, whether they like it or not. This way if you do have a message you want to display in huge red letters, you can, and we won't get stuck with a bunch of failed upgrades.

From what I understand the issue is that screen is designed to just show plain text and we can't format it the way the software is currently built.

I'm going to get with Alex and Mark this morning and see what all of our options are regarding Safari.

          Re: Gold Candidate Stream

Hmmm, I see bullet points and other formatting - are you sure it's not HTML formatted page?

Even if it was plain text, you could, technically, shift everything down 20 lines or so and leave just "DO NOT RUN THIS UPGRADE WITH SAFARI" type warning, so it's impossible to miss - even in plain text.

Or, even better... how about fixing the installer so it doesn't crash on Safari? What seems to be the problem with this particular browser? Too standards-compliant? :-) If you can run the upgrade in IE, running it on more standards-compliant browsers should be a non-issue. Or, as most web developers say - develop for Firefox and Safari, and then test in IE and make tweaks only if IE doesn't work properly. If code works well in Firefox/Safari, it *should* work in IE, sans some crazy IE-only tweaks that may still be required in 2008 (sad, but...)

            Re: Gold Candidate Stream

Clearly fixing the browser issue to run in Safari is the ideal situation.

              Re: Gold Candidate Stream

I ran the beta streaming update and come to this error:
              Miva Merchant: Upgrade: Error

Miva Merchant encountered a fatal error during upgrade. The upgrade process has been aborted.
Error Code: PATCH-PRODUCTION-5-41 Description: Failed to move setup.mvc to /5.00/ directory.

I then reloaded the site and now a lot of the graphics are giving forbidden errors:

Huge ugly red letters somewhere even granny won't miss it and you're covered. Like how about loading that in the Message center in the admin before anybody has clicked anything.

                    Re: Gold Candidate Stream

The Safari issue with our Streaming Update system has been around for a long time. This isn't anything new that was introduced in 5.5.

Unfortunately we can't alter fonts in the streaming system at this time, but we are working on other ways to make this issue more visible.

                    Thanks.

                      Hi All,

A new stream that addresses this issue has been deployed on beta.

This stream does not fix or introduce anything new in 5.5. It fixes two issues caused by the stream and does not orphan the final beta stream that's been deployed on Friday.

                      Issues addressed:
The issue that created two instances of the Maintenance Warning Message has been fixed. Existing Beta Installations could correct this issue by going to your Global Header & Footer settings and remove the second instance of the Warning Message from Global Header.

The issue that caused the stream to fail when users are upgrading in Secure mode has been fixed. If you didn't run into this issue during the stream, you don't have to worry about it.
If you did, you'll need to roll back to PR4 and run the stream again.

                      Thanks.

Is my test store that I ran the first beta stream still orphaned? Can I change the Upgrade Settings path? I currently have

Does the new stream correct the problem with permissions on images as well?

                              Hi Ed,

You ran into this issue because your stream failed and was left unfinished. So you missed about 3 steps (one of which was updating permissions on images).

Has the live stream been updated yet? I just looked at the xml and it does not list pr5.
