Is there a SIMPLE tutorial - preferably text with screenshots - on how to create a coupon? I sat in on the webinar and color me stupid, but it seemed very convoluted to me. I need to create a coupon that restricts products within a number of categories or by product code.

Re: MM9 Coupon how-to?
We may kick out some basic screenshot based tutorials/articles as that is a better fit for us. (we are somewhat video/audio shy) Miva Merchant 9's new Marketing features are extremely powerful, Miva did a good job of trying to cover the many possibilities. With that comes a level of complexity, and I agree this hasn't been clearly represented in the videos/webinars yet.
What helped me with all of this was to think of the new Price Groups as "Promotions". (I almost think it should be renamed) The Promotions are what you use to setup the actual discounts, associate products/customers, set the minimums/maximums, time settings etc. Coupons at that point become an optional trigger for a given promotion. Once you think of things in terms of promotions and triggers, it becomes somewhat clearer.
I also see the potential for additional promotion triggers in the future. Depending on how it plays out Gift Certificates are definitely a possibility.

Re: MM9 Coupon how-to?
I hear what you are trying to explain Dan - I'm thinking of the thousands of store owners who have used the EmporiumPlus Coupon module - it is fairly easy and straight forward, you want a coupon, you click coupon, you enter the code, set the parameters and you have a coupon, period.
A LOT of people are going to have to be retrained in their thought process.

Re: MM9 Coupon how-to?
Out with the old, in with the new. (though I think the admin/resources could better define these new features) While the previous coupon modules did a decent job over the years, they did not allow for this level of expandable complexity, there were always a long list of exceptions with many of their features.
I agree that Miva Merchant 9 is a complete retrain the brain situation, especially for previous users. I will also share that our team has agreed with each and every one of your posts recommending caution against upgrading prior to the holidays. While Miva did a solid job of ensuring the least amount of breakage as possible with this upgrade, store owners/managers are not seeing the potential new admin learning curve, template changes required to use new features and seats before hitting that update button.Last edited by Dan - Glendale Designs; 11-18-14, 08:40 AM.

Re: MM9 Coupon how-to?
So with all this said, there are no step by step direction to create a coupon with the new system? Once I can wrap my head around the new steps, I will be able to train others on how to use. I've always been consider a pretty good translator of geek to English.
Trying to figure it out form the videos is a bit too tedious at the moment.Leslie Kirk

Re: MM9 Coupon how-to?
Thank Brennan...I think I know what I'm having a really really really hard time wrapping my head around - it's the nomenclature "Price Groups". Dan helped me see past the label and understand that these are "Promotions". I would like to strongly recommend that this be relabeled. Price Groups will confuse the seasoned users and the new store owners alike.
Thank you again Dan for helping me get past that.Leslie Kirk

Re: MM9 Coupon how-to?
Yea, the renamed theme was MUCH better idea (basically coupon templates...though I forgot exactly what came up). Well, even you are occasional are correct :)
BTW: We've had plans to create an "Easy Coupon" module, and probably still will for internal use. The idea is for a simple coupon that can be created in less than 30 seconds. It would have a fixed duration, variable discount and product assignability but that's it. The idea is to have something, that, when you trying to close a sale, you can quickly give the customer a discount without costing you 5 minutes. (It definitely leverage the new coupon templates...I mean price groups.)
Let us know if anyone is interested and will ponder making a retail version.
(For the record, the new system is actually LESS complicated than Emporiums coupon...once you do a few...we still manage to mess the old ones up about every other time...)Last edited by Rick Wilson; 11-19-14, 06:40 AM.Bruce Golub

Re: MM9 Coupon how-to?
Bruce, the store owner I'm working with on this wants the ability to RESTRICT products from the coupon. They had been trying to use the minus sign function with category codes in the EP Coupon module. There is no such ability, only the ability to restrict to (not from) using the tilde at the beginning of the string of category codes. In this store's case, having to assign potentially thousands of products to a coupon is not practical. The one thing I did remind the store owner about is the product(s) need to be assign only to the restricted categories - if the product is assigned categories outside the list it's not going to work.
So I guess I need to take this to the Wish List?Leslie Kirk

Re: MM9 Coupon how-to?
Yeah, this has proven to be a huge pain in the butt. As I type this, I'm setting up a 10% basket coupon, and I have to assign it to 8000 products. It takes forever. I only have 4 more coupons that I have to do this for after this one.Ted Hust

Re: MM9 Coupon how-to?
And I'm correct right? If you create a 10% off basket price group, and want it to apply to ALL products, you have to go in and manually assign ALL products right? There isn't something I'm missing? I hope there is :)
EDITED, I see in the store I was playing with it on, even though I set it to show on basket, it wasn't showing until the final step of the checkout process, so that was why I was confused.Last edited by aarcmedia; 05-14-15, 06:02 AM.Ted Hust

Re: MM9 Coupon how-to?
Hey Ted -
If you have the discount type set to Basket Discount, it automatically applies to all products. There is not even an option to assign products to it.
If you choose percentage discount or fixed discount, both of those are product specific and do allow you to setup specific products to assign to the price group.
