MX record change in DNS will not propagate

We are attempting to make changes to our email service to where we are using GOOGLE mail services for business. Primarily because it is a much more robust service with many other tools as well. My problem is that when I make the changes to the DNS settings for the new MX record, it never propagates out. It does however break the mail services until I change it back to the original settings. I have made the changes before and let it sit for 36 hours but there were no changes. I know it is rare to ever have to go that long anymore for record changes to propagate.

Is there a reason for this? Am I doing something wrong? I have done this before for many other businesses, helping them move to their mail services to Google with no issues. But in this instance I am stuck...

Maybe the record changes need to be made at HOSTASAURUS, the actual registrar?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Sincerely

    Gary

The change would need to be made on the DNS servers handling the domain in question, regardless of who the domain was actually registered with. The expiration time (aka Time To Live) being served with the records determines how long they will take to expire from all cache servers, but five minutes to a few hours is typical. If the domain in question is using ns1-4.hostasaurus.com, updates will need to be performed via a support request as there is no management interface to records on those servers. If the domain is using the myecommercedns.com/net servers, the records can be managed via the hosting control panel with us. If the domain is not hosted with us and only registered with us, the entity managing the DNS servers the domain is currently using would have control over what records are served.

Thanks David for the timely reply.

I will be looking further into as the NS servers ARE 1-4.hostasaurus.com

Got it; in that case, it should be handled via support ticket. The DNS management functionality in our control panel doesn't update those servers. There are different servers that can be switched to that will give you control over the records if you'd like.
