UPS Online Tools / Residential vs. Commercial

Is there a way, or setting I am missing, that will check to see if the address is a residential or commercial address? Perhaps if the "Company" field is blank the module will assume it is residential?

Most of our customers will not put their company name in the "Company" field for whatever reason so I would rather it defaults to the residential rates to be safe. All of the other new (and old) UPS surcharges are killing us chasing credits so this would really make our lives a little easier.

    Thanks in advance,
    Mike

Correct, this is how it works.

Thanks Rick for the fast reply!

I was testing it on our dev site but since our products are in ounces I guess I wasn't adjusting the quantities enough to see the price changing.

Now if you can add an option in the module that will stop the UPS scanners from saying a "stray" piece of tape caused the dimensional weight to go up we are all set :)

        Hi Rick,

Last question, anything in the works for using UPS address validation?

I tested the module after changing our weights to pounds and it worked great. My only issue is we sell to a lot of sales people and they put their company name in the "Company" field even if it is a residential address. That has potential to to burn us on shipping costs if that happens on larger orders.

I know there are a couple of subscription based modules out there for UPS validation but right now any other added expenses to our shipping costs is an option. Our competition is offering free shipping so we are just trying to stay in the game.

        Thanks again,
        Mike

We're looking at making some changes so you can have a checkmark to toggle Residential/Commercial.
