My hosting company just contacted us about the price increase but didn't tell the level that we fall under. We are all pretty upset as we may like have to pay $170/month more (from $80 to $250). Small modest increase would have been understandable but more than tripling is not reasonable.
We used to ask our wholesale customers to place order online to make entering orders easier for us but now realize that that was a mistake. We also used to email customers payment links to pay through our website (for order already placed) even though we could charge over the phone.
Even after reading the posts above, the price increase is just too much and we have started our search for another shopping cart. Right now we are considering www.3dcart.com . It had been a good 15 years with Miva for us. The recent Miva improvements are nice but not essential and need plenty of time to implement. Making them as plug-ins and charging for them would have been another way to make money for Miva. For us, it is more feasible to just switch to a new company and have a new re-design and start everything over :( .
We are in the same boat as we import our Amazon sales into MIVA which amounts to about 90% of our sales. Of course these have nothing to do with MIVA sales and should not be counted for determining our sales volume. I will send off a ticket regarding this.
Quick question on hosting with Miva - do the Small Business Plans listed on Miva.com include both the Miva license and the hosting fees? So the $249/mo plan is just $249/mo?
And I'm guessing that with these plans, Miva still doesn't allow SSH access to run any unix scripts?

We have allowed a restricted SSH shell enabled by default on all plans for the past few years. You can use typical commands, but if you wanted to do things like run php scripts, perl, etc. those won't work in the restricted shell because they depend on libraries and other parts of the filesystem that are not accessible. You can set up cron jobs that call scripts though, which do not run restricted.
Thanks for the info. Only thing my client runs right now is a basic BASH script that FTPs an order file to a fulfillment house, archives the file and sends emails.
Guessing something like this would require the dedicated server.

If it runs via cron, that would work fine on shared hosting; we have many customers doing tasks like that. If they wanted to ssh in and kick it off manually, it may even be possible to get it working there too given how simple it sounds, since the commands it likely uses could probably be copied into the custom environment.
